It's entirely possible he just wanted to go back to prison. After 27 years there of being told what to do, when to do it, getting his meals regularly--it just gets comfortable. Compared to being a dishwasher it's an easy life for an old man. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened.
True. However, he could have just committed a run of the mill felony. Drunk driving, caught with a gun or vote. Well, voting would earn him accolades from some, but you get the point. Sorry to disagree with your assumptions. This POS could have gone back to prison for a thousand different criminal acts. He chose killing a girl, because killing feels good to him, period!
