I think this veil thing is something to create a bit of controversy - the men put them up to it; I think its only recent, except say for rich Saudis in parts of London. I do know that at least 2 muslim countries forbid, or at least take a dim view of head coverings - think Turkey & Tunisia. (not sure, will have to look it up)
