Perhaps James Hansen can claim that his position was a botched joke and he is therefore not responsible.

There are times when we can all love the French. . .some of them, anyway, LOL!
Seriously, this honesty is refreshing. And from a country which relies more heavily on nuclear power than any other, it might be an example to some of our NIMBY pols.

Here's a clue ;O)
It's all quite measurably cyclic in nature.
Mini - Ice Ages occur about every five hundred years...which means that 'in between' mini ice Ages...there are mini-"global warming" ages...
Currently, we are about maxed out as far as temps are concerned. - at or near the top of the cycle, if youwill - Over the next few decades expect things to start cooling off a bit. There are also much smaller 'cycles' and as we all know, there are much larger cycles, (Wisconsin Ice Age, for example.)

This would be tremendously good news, that increasing CO2 by 50% (by mid century) will not cause a catastrophic change in climate (permanent droughts in the major grain producing regions, etc). Then we can concentrate on the real energy problem: our dangerous dependence on foreign sources of energy, particularly petroleum. We have an enormous amount of fossil fuels here in the US--coal and oil shales. We need to develop these to prevent our being blackmailed by Islamic fascists, the way Europe is now being blackmailed by the Russians.

The very last thing in your post -- about volcanic and marine CO2 -- grabbed my attention. It flatly contradicts something I found on the US Geological Survey web site on volcanic hazards:
http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/Hazards/What/VolGas/volgas.html (look down the page for the paragraph comparing human and volcanic CO2 emissions). I should get a hold of the reference in your post and see what they say. If the guys in your post are right, then global warming goes out the window.

Ayup. Research both sides of the issue, examine the facts, and make up your own mind.

Fascinating Analysis of Leftist Goals, August 13, 2006
Reviewer: N. Sincerity - See all my reviews
A former 1960s radical, Horowitz is well-acquainted with the Leftist mindset. In this book, he strives to explain the modern alliance between left wing progressivists and radical Islamofascists. He argues that this alliance is based on a common desire to destroy Western capitalism. Leftist sympathy with Islamofascist ideas makes no sense from an intellectual point of view, given that countries ruled by radical Islamists are among the most racist, sexist, theocratic states in the world today. However, Leftists have recognized that they can benefit politically from destructive terrorist attacks on the Western world. A West under attack can be made to turn on its leaders in fear and desperation (as they did in Spain after the Madrid train bombings). Only once people reject current government structures can the Left execute its anti-capitalist revolution and build a new reality that mirrors the Leftist view of utopia.
The complete and utter idealogical hypocrisy of the Islamofascist-Leftist alliance is distressing, but as Horowitz reminds us,
Leftists radicals truly believe the ends justify the means.

Can’t go wrong on this issue whichever way since the effect of the phenomenon is slight and will take lifetimes to play out. However, don’t make any real world decisions based on this; keep it political.
