WASHINGTON - A group of GIs showed they are smart enough to take on condescending Sen. John Kerry - by deploying a hilariously misspelled sign mocking the failed presidential candidate's comments about their education.
"Halp us Jon Carry - We R stuck hear n Irak," read the sign, which was apparently the brainchild of a group of service members from the Minnesota National Guard.
The picture was first revealed yesterday on the blog Web site of Milwaukee talk radio host Charlie Sykes, who said he got it from a listener who had a buddy in the unit.
The picture soon raced around the Internet, and it got much of the nation chuckling when it went up on Drudge Report later in the day.
Staff Sgt. Erik Holtan, a member of the Minnesota National Guard, says he saw the picture and recognized the insignia as that of his fellow Minnesota guardsmen - and he immediately put it up on his own blog site.
"It's awesome," he told The Post. "The troops over there have to be livid because of what [Kerry] said. I don't know why he would say that."
Holtan, who works at Guard headquarters, said he believes the troops behind the Kerry sign are in Iraq, since all the members of the unit in the shot - the 1/34 Brigade Troops Battalion - have been deployed.
He said he can see a unit insignia on one of the vehicles in the background and those vehicles have also gone to Iraq.
Fox News Channel quoted Army officials saying that the picture looked authentic and appeared to be taken in Iraq.
"We are always amazed at the creativity of our troops," one Army official told Fox.
Without citing sources, ABC News in Washington said the photograph was taken in Talil,

LOL! Your moose ate your sister's cheese!
Surely you must be joking.
Don't call me Shirley.
This is the part of this whole thing that really infuriates me - that the DBM is trying to pass it off as a "flub". IT WASN'T A FLUB! Kerry said exactly what he intended to say, and meant exactly what it sounded like he meant - that the military is a bunch of slackers/losers/morons who are only in the military because they couldn't be Rhodes Scholars (or marry a couple of wealthy women to sponge off of).
John Kerry is and always has been the most pompous, arrogant, imbecile on the face of the earth.
It's a problem with how imprecise the English language is. In logical terms we'd say:
service member OR family member OR American
This means any one or all of those being true makes a true statement. With English, it's easily interpreted as you take it:
( service member OR family member ) XOR American
Which means you can be a service member or family member, but you can't be either of those and be an American.
Too much of English requires context, nuance and intention of the speaker to decipher properly. That's probably why I like computers and programming -- it's easier.
Agreed - but my point was they had time to write and analyze this statement - time enough to make sure it could not be misinterpreted. After all, they're smarter than all of us "put tegether", are they not?
The condescending senator from Massachusetts continues to amaze and impress. Even when he tells a 'poorly stated' joke he still manages to get most of the country laughing at him. If he ever manages to put together a 'well stated' joke the entire country will probably have to call off work for a nation day of laughter.
Here is an interesting blog from cartoonist Gary Varvel. I actually like some of the sketches better than the final cartoon.
