Democratic Sen. John Kerry said on Wednesday he was sorry about a "botched joke" that drew election-year fire from President George W. Bush and other Republicans who accused him of insulting U.S. troops in Iraq.

Kerry reiterated the target of his joke was Bush, who immediately seized on the senator's remarks to rally Republican supporters ahead of Tuesday's elections, in which the party's control of Congress is at risk.
Kerry said he was returning to Washington from a trip campaigning on behalf of Democratic congressional candidates because he did not want to be "a distraction."
A day after rejecting calls to apologize for his remarks, Kerry, appearing on the "Imus in the Morning" radio show on MSNBC, declared: "I said it was a botched joke. Of course, I'm sorry about a botched joke."

The Democrats seem to also have an intellectual and moral problem - they don't understand that saying sorry is only the beginning of repentance, not the end. If Kerry is genuinely sorry, let's see him write a big cheque to Veterans charities or to the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund. Or alternatively, let's see him give up his position on defence committees in the Senate, citing that given events, it would not be appropriate if he served on these committees at this time.

This is not an apology. The bomb has already exploded.

Posted this on the other "apology" thread........
.... even here the MSM is spinning, spinning, spinning. He is apologizing for botching a joke?!?!? What about our troops? What about those heroes who are maimed? What about those who have lost loved ones?? Even if it was botched, his words cut to the core of these people, their souls. Is he so callous and cavalier that he can disregard that?? What a despicable human being.
