From a smiling Ronnie Reagan up There:
The Return of the Good Guys
By Judi McLeod

Wednesday, November 1, 2006

Saturday afternoon at the movies. Watching the silver-badged sheriff booting the bad guys out of Dodge while munching on real-butter popcorn and savoring your once-a-week Tootsie Roll.

Back in those days, the bad guy may as well have worn a shirt emblazoned with the word `Skunk!'. At the Saturday matinee, there was no need for second guessing, no political points, no propaganda and GI Joe was the undisputed hero.

Remember?

If only you could go back to the good days when American bashing would have got you popcorn boxes thrown at the silver screen.

You can go back, thanks to the passion of David Horowitz, President & Founder of the Horowitz Freedom Center, true patriot of The Liberty Film Festival.

You've seen David Horowitz duking it out with lefties like Professor Ward Churchill of 9/11 victims "Little Eichmanns" fame and others of his ilk on Fox News.

What Horowitz says about lefties counts. He was once one of them.

"For the first time since Ronald Reagan left Hollywood for Washington there is a voice in Hollywood to counter the political left. The Liberty Film Festival is Hollywood's first pro-American, pro-Israel film festival and cultural organization." (Horowitz in NewsMax.com, Oct. 28, 2006.) "Its purpose is to create the kind of film product of which Americans who love freedom and love their country can be proud."

COURAGEOUS FILM-MAKERS

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

No, I do not mean the Dixie Chicks and their moronic "Shut up and sing" (if only!).

Their "blacklisting" and claims of victim status are even more preposterous than those of the famous Hollywood Ten (every one of whom was a Communist and lied about it and every one of whom went on being employed in the film industry in the States or Europe) and their acolytes. The Dixie Chicks and their supporters appear to think that if people do not buy their records for whatever reason, their constitutional rights are under attack. Otherwise, I cannot quite see how they were "blacklisted", given the amount of publicity the wretched group received on both sides of the Pond.

Libertas, a conservative film website (oh for something like that in Britain) has a posting about a truly courageous film-maker, Pierre Rehov, whose films will be shown at the Liberty Film Festival (oh for something like that in Britain).

Rehov is a French-Algerian film-maker who risked his life to make "Suicide-Killers". He went into the terrorist training camps, interviewed the would-be killers, talked to their families and to those who had failed and were in Israeli prisons.

This astounding documentary shows first-hand that terrorists are created not by Israeli or American foreign policy, but by the repression, lack of democratic freedom, and poverty of Arab societies.

Not, perhaps, surprising to many of us but worth saying and worth documenting. The courage of this man is quite astonishing.

He has made another film, called "From the River to the Sea" in which he looks at the Palestinian claim to Israel but, more than that, documents the treatment of Palestinian by other Arab states and by their own leadership; talks about the huge amount of money stolen from the Palestinians (nobody even mentions Arafat’s widow and other friends and relations of the late unlamented Chairman):

From the River to the Sea is an eye-opening documentary about how the UN and Arab nations surrounding Israel have conspired to keep Palestinians in refugee camps without jobs, citizenship, or opportunity, thereby encouraging them to turn to terrorism against Israel. The film features shocking footage of Palestinian terrorists escaping in UN vans, and explores the controversial issue of "right of return." It also documents the shocking corruption of UNRWA and the PLO in robbing hundreds of millions from Palestinian refugees, and reveals the anti-Israeli, anti-Jewish propaganda that is taught to schoolchildren in UN-funded schools in Palestinian camps.

I have only one question. How soon will a courageous British cinema or film festival run either film if only in order to open a discussion?

Discover the Secret Right-Wing Network Behind ABC's 9/11 Deception
Huffington Post via Yahoo News ^ | September 8, 2006 | Max Blumenthal

Posted on 09/09/2006 10:45:19 PM PDT by Lorianne

Less than 72 hours before ABC's "The Path to 9/11" is scheduled to air, the network is suddenly under siege. On Tuesday, ABC was forced to concede that "The Path to 9/11" is "a dramatization, not a documentary." The film deceptively invents scenes to depict former President Bill Clinton's handling of the Al Qaeda threat...

-- snip --

...In fact, "The Path to 9/11" is produced and promoted by a well-honed propaganda operation consisting of a network of little-known right-wingers working from within Hollywood to counter its supposedly liberal bias. This is the network within the ABC network. Its godfather is far right activist David Horowitz, who has worked for more than a decade to establish a right-wing presence in Hollywood and to discredit mainstream film and TV production. On this project, he is working with a secretive evangelical religious right group founded by The Path to 9/11's director David Cunningham that proclaims its goal to "transform Hollywood" in line with its messianic vision.

Before The Path to 9/11 entered the production stage, Disney/ABC contracted David Cunningham as the film's director. Cunningham is no ordinary Hollywood journeyman. He is in fact the son of Loren Cunningham, founder of the right-wing evangelical group Youth With A Mission (YWAM). The young Cunningham helped found an auxiliary of his father's group called The Film Institute (TFI), which, according to its mission statement, is "dedicated to a Godly transformation and revolution TO and THROUGH the Film and Televisionindustry." As part of TFI's long-term strategy, Cunningham helped place interns from Youth With A Mission's in film industry jobs "so that they can begin to impact and transform Hollywood from the inside out," according to a YWAM report...

-- snip --

...Early on, Cunningham had recruited a young Iranian-American screenwriter named Cyrus Nowrasteh to write the script of his secretive "Untitled" film. Not only is Nowrasteh an outspoken conservative, he is also a fervent member of the emerging network of right-wing people burrowing into the film industry with ulterior sectarian political and religious agendas, like Cunningham.

Nowrasteh's conservatism was on display when he appeared as a featured speaker at the Liberty Film Festival (LFF), an annual event founded in 2004 to premier and promote conservative-themed films supposedly too "politically incorrect" to gain acceptance at mainstream film festivals. This June, while The Path to 9/11 was being filmed, LFF founders Govindini Murty and Jason Apuzzo -- both friends of Nowrasteh -- announced they were "partnering" with right-wing activist David Horowitz. Indeed, the 2006 LFF is listed as "A Program of the David Horowitz Freedom Center..."

The answer lies within "THIS IS DNN," a sharp-witted
parody of the Cable News Networks.

While cleaning his attic, Harold (Scott Wathen) finds a
mysterious dust-covered film reel labeled "Anne Siped -1944."
After turning on the projector, he watches in disbelief -
his grandma's a "news babe" (Anne Caitlin Donohue) and
she is anchoring a DNN News Channel broadcast from
February 1944!

But this is only the beginning. It's what's in this newscast
that shocks him even more: FDR protestors, war protestors,
hurricane protestors, New Deal protestors, and a mockery
of FDR in Hollywood's newest blockbuster - "Fahrenheit 12/7."
Has the mainstream media of 1944 gone berserk?

As the film reel spools out, a stunned Harold returns downstairs
to his TV news junkie wife. On TV is our favorite curmudgeon broadcast commentator, Randy Mooney (Rowell Gormon).  After his harrowing attic experience, Harold is struck by the irony found within Mr Mooney's words.

Featuring newcomers Anne-Caitlin Donohue, Rowell Gormon
and Scott Wathen  "This is DNN " is a satirical yet long overdue
lesson in historical perspective.

At a time when we need it the most.

When Govindin and Jason came up to Silicon Valley earlier this year, we are in hopes that we'll be a stop for a future film festival expansion. :-)

Until then, you can see an AMAZING film from LAST YEAR'S Festival on FOX this weekend,

From www.newshounds.us:

FOX News rearranging weekend line-up to air terror film, scare jaded voters to polls

Reported by Chrish - November 2, 2006 - 147 comments

FOX News Channel has announced that it will air "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West,"

"(a) frightening new documentary by filmmaker Wayne Kopping ....

What he found, is something FOX News believes every American should know."

The film, which is actually a year old, will be shown four (4) times this weekend to help Republicans scare their base to the polls. Along with plenty of footage accusing Democrats of not getting it (an O'Reilly favorite) and Dick Morris' sickening new anti-Democrat smear commercial, FOX is pulling out all the stops to support their party.

Another article at FOXNews.com says that

"We often hear that 9/11 was a wake-up call for Americans. But have Americans really woken up to the truth of how much radical Islamists want us dead, and the lengths to which they are willing to go to fulfill their mission?

According to a shocking new (sic) documentary called “Obsession,” the free world is still unprepared to face the unwavering commitment of those who have pledged their lives to our destruction. The film states that we suffer not so much from complacency, but from the naïve disbelief that we remain targets of thousands, perhaps millions of radical Muslims around the world."

In other words, we're not scared enough (yet) to turn over ALL our rights to the executive branch. Maybe this'll do it - it's worth a shot, right?

From Libertas, "a forum for conservative thought on film":

"We’ve just received word that this weekend Fox News will be presenting a 40 minute version of the film Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West that had its World Premiere at the 2005 Liberty Film Festival.

Obsession was the Best Feature Film winner from last year’s festival, and will be playing on Fox News Saturday Nov. 4th at 8pm/1am/5am, and Sunday Nov. 5th at 10pm.

We’re told these will be Fox News special TV broadcasts, i.e., they redid their lineups to make this happen, and that they will be advertising the show on TV commercials in advance. Following the film will be an interview with director Wayne Kopping."

We’re extremely proud to have done the World Premiere of Obsession, and we’re thrilled that Fox News will be re-arranging its line-up - right at the height of election season - to air this important film. The purpose of The Liberty Film Festival is to discover such films and bring them to the public.

Clearly this is intended to reach the voters who still think that the Bush administration can keep us safer than Democrats and who conflate the war in Iraq with the so-called war on terror. This blatant electioneering by a so-called news channel erases for once and for all any pretense that FOX is fair or balanced - it is right-wing propaganda and nothing more.

Let FOX know what you think of their blatant Republican campaigning at:

Thanks to g-mailer Matt for the heads-up.
