I suspect what he meant to say was that if you study blah blah blah, "...but if you don't, like the President, you can end up stuck in Iraq with a failed policy." Only it didn't come out that way.
Had Lurch been speaking with a NYT's reporter, that's how it would have ended up. But when he used the word "YOU" while speaking to kids, the implication was that "They" would end up stuck in Iraq.
A gift nonetheless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would have been extremely weak, since Bush got better grades at Yale than he did (though neither seems to have been the scholarly type!). I suspect he was stuck back in the Vietnam "glory" days, when -- because of the draft -- students who flunked out lost their student deferment.
I am very much inclined to believe this as well, why? Well because it would be flat out STUPID to say this in public. I am sure the majority of Democrats feel this way, but I don't believe Kerry is an idiot.
Having said that, he STILL should have apologized, and then said that he mis-spoke. If he had come across sincere, instead of blaming Bush, Republicans, and Rush Limbaugh, I think the issue would have gone away.
