In the middle of a war, it is traditional not to praise an enemy, give him props for anything, speak of his accomplishments as anything but crimes needing to be rectified, and in all things to promise assiduously to negate his "accomplishments" completely, so that the world of tomorrow will revolve exactly, or as close to it as possible, as if the enemy -- and he is an enemy, not merely an Other -- had never existed.

That's what I mean.
