You're almost certainly right that Kerry was aiming the barb at Bush and he flubbed it. But it's still a valid point to ram home, because like you said, it's the leftist's viewpoint. Liberals don't see soldiers as defenders of freedom. They see soldiers as
victims. To them, the members of our military are nothing more than professional warmongers that are sadly out of touch with modern society and should be pitied (in the case of those that make it a career), or else they're obviously only in the military because the eeeebil capitalist Republicans took all their jobs and forced them to volunteer (in the case of those only in for shorter hitches). To them, members of the military
are stupid. And even if Kerry's slip was accidental, it's damn sure worth taking the opportunity to point that attitude out to the public and not let the Rats hide behind their false patriotism anymore.
