PHNOM PENH, Cambodia --An associate of Angelina Jolie has said a lawsuit may be filed on behalf of the Hollywood actress against the head of a Cambodian aid group she alleges misappropriated her donations.

"We are considering filing a lawsuit to recover the hundreds of thousands of dollars that is missing and which he was responsible for," Trevor Neilson, who is the philanthropic and political advisor for Jolie and partner Brad Pitt, told The Associated Press in New York Monday.

Ms. Jolie is finally realizing what it's like in the real world and why money never gets to where it's supposed to go in Third World Countries. That being said, I admire her for putting her money, time and reputation on the line for what she believes in. I hope she learns from this and let's the rest of her buddies know that things are never the way they appear.

Dedication to a cause isn't always admirable. Sometimes it's stupid...or even downright eveil.

Not saying she's either of those, though she may be. Just pointing out that supporting a cause isn't always admirable.

Exactly, We here at FR do not consider the misappropriation of funds by these countries as news. The reason for the horrible poverty and suffering in these countries is because of the evil in their governments.

It as about time these people get their heads out of the sand and wake up in reality.

"...recover the hundreds of thousands of dollars..."

Welcome to the club Angie. Hell, I'd like to recover the Trillions spent globally on the war on poverty and hunger. Got any suggestions?

Give a turd world a few million $'s and they'll pay a few 'extras' to look grateful on camera. Meanwhile the warlords a moving to better palaces.

She adopted a boy who she obviously adores...she gives her time and money to help fight poverty in Cambodia. I don't think that's evil. Do you?

I respect her for your time, money, and effort. She does put her money where her mouth is in these matters but,

She needs to learn that with 3rd world countries, just like with Africa, the problem isn't money. Its the culture and leadership. Untill those approve, no matter how much money you throw at the problem, it will all just end up in corrupt people's pockets.

I think she just learned that...and if she keeps this lawsuit up, maybe others will realize the cold, hard facts.

If she had anywhere near as much brains as money, the 'charitable' agency would have been scoped out before they got the $$$

Right??

Oh, I thought you meant the whole UN stuff she's involved with. Not sure about that cause...or any of her political causes.

Sure, I think it's good to adopt, whether in the third or first world.

Well, I think like most idealistic people, she believed the people she met there. She has spent alot of time there, and apparently has fallen in love with the country. She's bought land there. I think there's alot of naivity when you're getting involved with these countries. But it sounds like she's learning, the hard way, that there is a reason these Countries continue to keep their people poor...and if she brings that to light to the libs who will listen to her, than she'll be doing a good thing for the world.

It's naive to adopt a child from a poor country?

I'm anything but a fan, but good for her.

Typically, celebrity charity efforts are transparent efforts at public relations and/or making them feel good about themselves. Actually expecting the money to be put to good use is normally WAY down on the celebrity priority list.

I am just saying that ANYONE who gives to ANY charity ANYWHERE is plum dumb if they don't check it out first...especially if the 'giver' is a celebrity and a target for people with their hand out.

Think they'll figure out it isn't all America's fault?

Nah

In all fairness, this WAS probably a reputable charity. As we know, even here in America, bad things happen at reputable places. I don't even know if there's such a thing as a reputable charity in Cambodia. She'll learn from this and hopefully go on to make better decisions. But I hope she does sue. Unless these people in Third World Countries are held to the same scrutiny as the rest of the world, nothing will change.

"It's naive to adopt a child from a poor country?"

No, it's niave to give hundreds of thousands of dollars and not even attempt to understand why they are poor in the first place.

I agree. Most just consider the funds a reason for a PR shot.
