| WASHINGTON, Oct. 30, 2006 -- One hundred military families are sleeping easier this year thanks to USA Cares and the Homeownership Preservation Fund.
Across the nation, many military families are facing financial difficulty and a loss of income due to extended military service, Hugh Dukes, executive director of USA Cares, said. Were helping relieve the stress our troops are facing, allowing them to focus on their jobs, by alleviating financial strains
that might force a foreclosure. |

Taking Care of Family
If you're in the combat zone you get *more* take home pay because of being Federal tax exempt, right?
If you're career military HOW is an extended deployment causing you financial problems? There's also a housing allowance, is there not? And a pay raise under Bush too?
While it's important to do what we can for our service members, we should not create a grand social service program to "save you from yourself" if you're overextended financially due to fault of your own mismanagement.
How these deployments specifically "cause" these claimed hardships is not revealed and that makes me suspicious. If it's really a systemic problem, shout out so pressure can be brought forth to get reforms.
Could it be Reservists who were called for service and they left higher paying jobs, thus causing financual hardships? Some of these Reserve units returned home only to be sent again after two years stateside.
