England has 150 commercial vineyards, some of which have been producing wine continuously since 50AD when they were planted by the Romans!

Some of it is rather good too - a bottle of Knightsbridge 1999 won the silver medal in a French wine contest out of 2028 entries from 31 countries. As a rule though, we prefer beer, wine being ever so slightly gay. ;-)

I always thought that England was too cold for grapes, that's why the Engliash were beer drinkers - raised hops instead.
