The next Republican nominee was the Speaker of the House, James Blaine, who was favored, but was defeated by Grover Cleveland, who served his first term, was defeated by Benjamin Harrison, and then defeated Harrison for re-election..

Last two times any sitting members of congress made it to the White House were 1960 and 1920. It will be a governor or an ex vp like always. Just like Governor Bush, Governor Clinton, Governor Reagan, Governor Carter, Ex VP Nixon, Ex VP Johnson.
Why would we break the streak now?
