Celtic president Red Auerbach died today in Washington, D.C. The franchise patriarch was 89.
Team officials were preparing a release on the matter, but all that is known at the moment is that the franchise patriarch passed away suddenly, according to his daughter.
Auerbach had battled healthy problems regularly the past few years, but had always managed to bring himself back from the brink of the most severe trouble.
In compiling a 938-479 record, Auerbach coached the Celtics to nine NBA championships, including titles in his last eight seasons on the bench.

Holy crap. I didn't think that this guy was even mortal.

It's ridiculously windy tonight (I didn't even know he was here in DC) but I'm lighting up a cigar.
