I suppose this thread is like beating a dead horse. But, if you look closely, the article was written by THE WASHINGTON POST (aka Jim Webb's press office).

I can just imagine their sobbing as they typed this story into the keyboard.

I went to Drudge and read just a couple of the excerpts from Webb's book. Frankly, I couldn't stomach more than that. The book says much about the character of its author. I wouldn't want the guy representing me, that's for sure.

A very very low-rent Vladimir Nabokov. He shoulda stuck to writing, "Dear Penthouse,..."

I do have to give him points about the Asian lady who "cut" a banana 4-ways using a certain body part. ;-D

I cannot imagine a less innocent victim of a "smear" than Webb, who has spent the whole campaign on name-calling and accusations, even calling Allen a coward.

George Allen has earned this revenge many times over. Now, if only Fox News would put Drudge back on the air...

It is amazing McCain and George Will thought Webb had talent as a writer. From the excepts, it appears that Webb used graphic salaciousness to sell books to compensate for his lack of literary talent. I think Webb did what he did for pecuniary greed. Some may celebrate his entrepreneurial elan, but money isn't everything.

I can't fathom that someone who writes dirty books wantso to run for public office all of a sudden. Where does this person get off asking for people's votes?

Should the author of a fictional work who runs for office be personally held to account for the scenes in his books?

Of course. Why not? The candidate imagined the things and wrote them. Sometimes that's to a person's credit, sometimes not.

I don't understand why liberals are always trying to divorce public life from private life. The same person lives them both. And if a person's public persona is different from his private persona - the public is a facade.

As for Webb, many people would consider it relevant that his mind and pen produce pedophilia scenes.

Indeed, it is hideous stuff. And Webb is calling it literature. I suppose he considers Hustler Magazine to be photographic art.

"It is amazing McCain and George Will thought Webb had talent as a writer."

Avoiding obvious inviting targets on the former, but I never put much stock into George Will's observations. He always struck me as one of the most constipated ostensibly "Conservative" talking heads on television. He rather makes Buckley and Novak look like Robin Williams on crack.

Given his "expertise", maybe he thought he was running for pubic office.

Yes. Foley was nailed for his fantasies, and Webbs are 100 times worse.
As within, so without. Webb is one sick SOB. Would you let him kiss YOUR little boy after reading what runs through his mind? Would you let him near your daughter? Your wife? Your son?

Foley writes dirty emails and gets multiple news stories per day published for months.

Webb writes dirty books for years and gets one story published two weeks before the election.

I noticed the WAPO did not mention the dad putting his son's penis in his mouth.

Webb was quoted in the article as saying:
"It is an observation about how the human species lives," Webb said after Mark Plotkin, the radio show's host, read one of the more lurid passages, prompting objections from the candidate.

How the "human species" lives. Baloney, INCEST IS TABOO IN EVERY SOCIETY AND CULTURE.

Good point.

Jim Webb's campaign is in shambles. You have to give credit to Matt Drudge. He's the one who ultimately set this in motion. Not to the level of igniting a Presidential impeachment, but considerable.

Of course, the passages of Webb's books make the Lewinski affair look wholesome.
