On the interview on Bennett, he mentioned high school football teams that had to get rid of their names such as the warriors for something not as offensive, yet the Islamist school teams were named something like Jihadists.

It's a very moving portrait at what has happened in other countries. We think it can't happen here, but in 30-40 years, I believe it can.

I read America Alone last week. Highlights include:.

1) Western European citizens have not replaced themselves. Populations are aging.
2) Muslims who immigrated to these countries are responsible for population increases.
3) Western European countries like France, Italy, Spain could have a Muslim majority within the next decade or so.

Writing appears to be on the wall...thus America Alone. USA is replacing their population but with what demographic group?

I just started it. Even the Prologue is amazing. He makes the point that conservatives would have a much easier time keeping their heads down in case the Muzzie's take over than will the feminists and gays. They shouldn't make us beg to save them.

Around here, the US is replacing its population with phosphorescent-skinned Latter Day Saints (that's what they like to be called. Not Mormons)

Mormons haven't killed anyone for being the wrong religion for 120 years now.

I read it and it's a must for Freepers. Steyn's predictions are gloomy, but as always his writing is energetic and witty.

I've read it also - apocalyptic stand-up is one way it has been described. Steyn's usual extremely witty word-play bringing the message of the end of European civilization (after reading it, I'm convinced Europe is lost although the end game will be a very bloody mess) and a warning to us here.

I am reading it right now...

I plan on finishing it this weekend...unless I am babysitting.

For some reason the little ones want me to read books to THEM, and that book doesn't have pictures.

I finished it a day or so ago. It's a MUST buy. Very informative and also, surprisingly-- at least considering the topic, which is de facto depressing for me-- pretty funny, too.

Considering the whitewash of subjects such as massive population decline in Europe and amongst Euro-americans, and the blunt warning of an Islamic future for Europe and how devestating it would be for free societies, it is also a brave book.

I much prefer books like this to those of Coulter or O'Reilly. Steyn in more thoughtful and less polemical. I happen to agree with his theses so, on top of thinking it the book is well done, I also happen to think it's important. The changes that will be the inevitable result of a muslim majority in Europe, and euro-americans becoming a minority in the US, will literaly be, as his subtitle suggests, the end of the world as we know it...and our left-biased pressed and academic institutions completely ignore the issue or openly support the change and wave away and negatives with accusations of racism.

Since conservatives seem to be nearly the only demographic group in the US, other than Muslims, who are interested in having children, I'd say we're going to do OK.

I ordered my copy from Amazon on 10/16. For the last week it's been bouncing back between Amazon warehouses in Bell and Richmond. Looks like it plans on spending the weekend in the Bay Area.

Finished the book last week. If you enjoy Steyn's columns you'll love the book - the same wit, the same concision, and the same no-holds-barred attack on the pretensions and prejudices of Europe's multicultural left in the face of a looming demographic and cultural cataclysm.

His case is twofold: first, that there is a current dearth of birth in many parts of the European Union and that the problem is very close to irrecoverable, at least theoretically. And second, that the real crisis is one of cultural confidence, that the demographic slide has cultural roots and that for a number of reasons muticulturalism has left secular Europe in the position of nurturing a viper in its collective bosom. None of this is news to Steyn's regular readers but compiled together this is a far more persuasive argument in book form than is possible within the constraints of a newspaper column.

Steyn retains his peculiar gift for the perfect bon mot and this is the funniest serious book I've read in a long time. The U.S. comes in for its own share of recrimination in the last chapters and for reasons similar to his take on Europe. The problem isn't restricted to Europe, they've only reached the crisis point a decade or so before us. If that.

We'll see, and I mean that literally - most of the events predicted will be played out well within the lifetimes of his readers. Personally I am a bit skeptical with respect to his population figures and especially with the assertion that there is a point at which the death-spiral becomes permanent. But neither of these need to be exactly spot-on for his overall argument to have merit. There is, actually, hard data on the fecundity of immigrant European Muslim populations and they tend to bear Steyn out.

Highly recommended.

This has also been covered in "While Europe Slept" another excellent book that concludes Europe will become majority Muslim and even more hostile to the U.S. Uncontrolled immigration and radical Muslims who refuse to assimilate are destroying Europe's liberal democracies. Their nutty attitudes about political correctness and not offending Muslims are even more extreme than some of the whacko ideas in the U.S. Scarey reading! I'd also recommend "The Looming Tower" which traces the history of Bin Laden, Al Queda, and radical Islam.
