They were focusing on macaca and we're not supposed to say anything about his books because they're fiction??? I fail to see the logic.

I usually agree with Malkin. This time, I think she's wrong.

I agree with Malkin. The matter should be dropped.

It may have been tactically clever to toss it out, since it obliged Webb to waste more time dealing with it than it took to raise it, it might sway a few voters, esp. in rural VA away from Webb and direct quotations from an opponent's writings aren't likely to push voters away as a dirty trick.

Still it's not worth spending more time on.

The Washington Post sure wasted a lot of ink trying to take Allen down. I guess now they have to go after Steele, but that may be a little more touchy.

[T]here's plenty else about Webb that is damning... Like Webb's...non-fiction writing about women in the military.

What did he have to say about that?

Lynne Cheney and Scooter Libby were not running for the US Senate.
I am a voracious reader and certainly not a prude, but, I find Webb's gratuitous smut very troubling.
How is a father sucking his baby son's penis germane to the story ?
Doesn't anyone in the Democrat party understand due diligence ?
And how grotesque this stuff is ?
Nothing Foley wrote comes close to the perversion of Webb's words.
Webb is either so arrogant or so out of touch that he thought his paper trail would be ignored.

She's right that such perverse obscenity is unremarkable these days, but "everybody does it" is hardly the best rejoinder. Mrs. Cheney and Libby should have faced more heat.

Ususally I agree with Malkin, but I think the fact that Webb's passages involve young boys makes this a whole different thing.

It's not as if nobody's ever written about pedophilia without discussing the exact mechanics before.

As far as we know Foley's instant messages were nothing but sexual fantasies and fiction, as well.

The MainSpinMedia used that to destroy a career, (Not saying it didn,t deserve to be destroyed)and is still milking it in an attempt to wreck other careers as well.

Seems a spade is only a spade when the MainSpinMedia sez it is.

Michelle's Naivete

Michelle Malkin posts Politics and pulp fiction stating Webb's books containing extremely raunchy bordering pornographic passages as just sexual fiction and we should just move on.

This "above the fray" attitude is as naive as it is self righteous in it's concept. I've read these passages in the context in which they were written. Believe you me it offers some keen insights into the person who authored them. They for the most part are gratuitous, offering little to the narrative other than titillation and shock induced disgust. The people performing these "acts" are neither villains nor anti-hero's but rather average joes who behave deplorably. Creepy is the best way to desribe much of what I read.

Is Webb a pedophile, women hater etc. because of the behavior of fictional characters he created? Of course not. But one must also be aware that a real flesh and bone person created these images in their not so fictional mind. Do the voters have a right to know these things about the man who would be their United States Senator? I think they do. If this doesn't mean anything to a perspective voter, fine, no harm done. If voting for Stephen King for the US Senate makes you a tad bit hinky, fine also.

Malkins argues that both Lynn Cheney and Scooter Libby wrote "pulpy" passages in their books. That may very well be but the fact that they are not running for high office makes this point irrelevent Michelle would be well advised to remember that the Democrats along with the co-dependent MSM attempted to change the course of an election using a hyped homosexual flirtation without the slightest regret. This is not a T-ball game, it's not how you play the game that counts.

Reluctance of Republicans to get down in the ditch and fight their advisary on whatever terms neccessary has lost them elections. The Democrats know this well and whether it was GWBs DWI bomb three days before the election or the mark Foley brewhaha they will do anything it takes to win.

If Michelle wishes to remain holier than thou fine but she also better hope that the RNC does not heed her advice as we will enjoy are warm fuzzy feelings in the minority.

That's nice, Michelle.

So when a Dem pulls something against a Republican, is some "enlightened" liberal columnist going to write a similar article about moving on as you seem all to quick to do in this case?

Or are they going to push the story and you write some whiny article about how unfair the MSM is?

Dont want to fight? Then get off the field.

What people outside of the Commonweath don't know is that Allen tried to make this campaign about ideas and leadership. It wasn't until this stupid macaca or whatever he said hype that the Allen side of the campaign decided it had to expose Webb as the ass that he is.

This is all about the Democrats and the MSM scheming together to keep actual issues off of the table nationwide. Democrats can't win if the discourse centers on policy and leadership. If Republicans don't play dirty pool they will not be heard. It's a shame, but that's the way things are and will be until the media becomes a level paying field where all voices can be heard.

I don't think, however, that the Allen campaign--couldn't they leave this to surrogates?--should be trafficking in this late October muck. It is beneath them and there's plenty else about Webb that is damning.

Like Webb's lying about leading the "fight" to include an African-American soldier in the Vietnam War soldier's memorial.

Or his non-fiction writing about women in the military.

And what happened to focusing on Webb's stance on taxes, as fiscal conservatives in Virginia have been urging?

I am going to do something I rarely do, and that's disagree with Michelle Malkin. The best candidate in this race was knocked back on his heels by a racial conflict created from whole cloth. The Washington Post is determined to ruin Allen, splashing "macaca" all over their front page time and time again and then obscured the issues by saying Allen couldn't make his points over the media's obsession with "macaca"!

The Demos set themselves up with their crusade against the GOP at large due to Foley, with Pelosi making her nauseating statements about how when the Dems run the House, the gavel will be in the hand's of America's children. Well, let's see how Ms. "America's children" responds to a colleague who wrote about a father gobbling his kid's junk for no narrative reason.

Barbara Boxer got more votes in the 2004 election than any other non-Presidential candidate. She got there by a legendary dirty trick against Republican Bruce Herschensohn. Anybody on the left care about that now? Heck, one of the Demo apologists for the smear against Herschensohn is running Shrivernegger's staff now!

Discrimination against women in uniform? That ain't half as bad as Bill Clinton's personal treatment of women, and no less a leftist than Gloria Steinem gave Slick a pass for exposing himself to Paula Jones because he's pro-choice.

Lying about "leading the fight" for a black soldier at the 'nam Memorial? Gimme a break! Hillary is just now owning up to not being named after Sir Edmund Hillary a decade and a half after she told that lie! There are probably people who still buy her being a Yankee fan all her life!

Taxes? Look, I believe anyone who will decide based on taxes won't be affected by "macaca." Being better on taxes than the blank slate that is Webb is something that should take care of itself. I don't believe the narrowing of the gap has to do with Webb's stand on taxes.

Nope, Michelle, I can't agree on this one. Speaking as someone who cringes every time he has to see Boxer on TV, and wonders if Herschensohn could have been an effective voice for the GOP by now, I think this is too explosive to leave on the sidelines in a race this close and this important. It's not enough to take punches this time, someone's gotta throw them.

In the words of Alice Cooper -- a Republican:

No more Mr. Nice Guy!
No more Mr. Cle-he-he-he-ean!
No more Mr. Nice Guy, they say
You're sick!! You're obsce-he-he-heene!"

The left stinks. When it suits them, they say "it's only a movie, it's only a novel".
When they can slime a conservative, they say "look how perverted!"

I seldom disagree with Ms Malkin's take on issues but I do disagree on this one. Webb has penned quite a number of scatological passages in books he has authored. He also expresses a very degrading opinion of women in his books along with using the offensive "n" word to describe blacks. Would a conservative get away with this? Why shouldn't team Allen use these character traits of Mr. Webb to their advantage? Every writer of fiction knows you write from the wealth of your own philosophy, character, experiences, notions and beliefs etc. I think it is fair game to question from what source Mr. Webb gets the material for his books. I for one wouldn't vote for a person who continually writes this type of perversion.

Remember how pathetic it was when the Left tried to make scandals out of books written by Lynne Cheney and Scooter Libby?

I believe they also did the same thing with Newt Gingrich and Bill O'Reilly.
