Reaganandme: So writing about incestuous, homosexual, underage love scenes doesn't raise flags?

It does. And sex sells, even in elections anymore. Shouldn't that raise flags too?

Peach: Literature has gotten so sick.

Yep. Literature, politics, tv, movies, sports....I'm sure there are more examples too.

Dugway Duke....LOL! Thanks for the grins tonight!

Dog: Politics isn't called a bloodsport for no reason....its rough and tumble.

True, I know. Yet doesn't that continually lower the bar for expectations for the ones we are electing to govern us? I feel like I'm voting for gorillas at times.

okie01 : Negative campaigning is designed to suppress the other side's turnout of "leaners". That said, mud begets mud. It's been long time since the Democrats were even remotely civil. I can't blame a Republican for responding in kind.

Good point about the leaners, likely true. Since I've already voted absentee this year, I guess I'm turned off for other reasons. While the RATS are the prime instigators, I hate to see us lowering to their standard.

Fledermaus: Grow a pair.

No thanks, wrong gender. I'll remain my steadfast conservative self and continue to wish that certain things were a LOT different in politics because of how it contributes to SOCIETY and interactions between Americans.

Steve McKing, the internet certainly is a blessing in getting info to the people and exposing lies, media etc. I do think that politics and society used to be less sexually hypnotized and more civil. Good manners were common, boundaries were more respected etc.

ilovew: It would be considered a weakness these days not to attack your opponent.

Actually, a candidate who could stay on the high road and not resort to smear tactics while staying on message about a platform I believed in, would get my serious consideration. Possibly my vote.

Petronski: How do you define mud?

The Mud term may not have been fully accurate the way I used it, but I typed it rather than try to explain my dismay at what seems to be tit for tat sniping. But I guess we all need to remember...sex sells.

All: Lots of qualified people in this country wouldn't dream of entering or staying in politics because of character assassinations during elections and other times. I find it a shame that what could be our brightest and best leaders may not be willing to step forward because they don't need the aggravation in their lives. Who can blame them? And yet, we desperately need them. It's a shame really.

Thanks for the responses I'm calling it a night.

Maybe they would get your vote. And that's the way it should be. But sadly, it's not.

Yes, and that precise condition enabled fiends to hide behind smiles and handshakes. Elected crooks would operate beyond reproach, if only they wore a suit and spoke politely.

On one hand your dismissing Jim Webb with a wave of the hand and a token "Who cares. It's just art, and he's a writer. Besides sex sells." On the other hand, you seem outraged that sex is selling in politics. "It's too dirty."

Please read what Jim Webb wrote (remember: his words, not mine): The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned him upside down, and put the boy's penis in his mouth.

If that doesn't send shivers down your spine, no matter how many different ways you try to spin it, I don't know what will.
