State investigators have searched the home of a Los Angeles Police Department officer they believe played a key role in mailing out thousands of racially charged letters to Latino voters in an Orange County congressional district this month.
The officer has been identified as Mark Nhan Nguyen, 32, a three-year veteran of the force who works as a collision investigator in South Los Angeles, according to sources familiar with an ongoing investigation by the state attorney general into the letter and whether the mailing violated any laws.

Nguyen is more common among Vietnamese than Smith among caucasians. It's fully believable that they're not related.

Nguyen is Vietnamese for 'Smith.'
To: agooga
Nguyen is Vietnamese for 'Smith'/'Jones'/'Brown' rolled into one.
What still impresses me is the officially endorsed outrage seeking something to be outraged about, as in:
"..an ongoing investigation by the state attorney general into the letter and whether the mailing violated any laws."
How long are we to expect them to take before they figure out that no laws were even winked at?
(Hint; how many days 'till the election? Add one for answer.)

If they hadn't yet determined wether the mailing violated laws, how did they get the search warrant?
Am I missing something here?

an ongoing investigation by the state attorney general into the letter and whether the mailing violated any laws So, the AG doesn't seem to know if any laws were broken, but is making releases to the press about an "ongoing investigation" during a runup to an election.

A lot of storm and fury over the typo of leaving out one adjective ("illegal") before "immigrant".

Liberals really seem to be big on investigating "crimes" that aren't crimes.

The Orange County Supervisors voted no to sending a letter to those 14,000 correcting anything in the previous letter and the State did re-send letters yesterday - not even ementioning the previous letter, just a letter noting voting laws.

Simple ANSWER: Attorney General is a Democrat, who was termed out of the Legislature, embarked on his election time witch hunt for Loretta Sanchez. He has never represented a client or tried a case. NOTE: He is termed out as an AG now. He is now running for StateTreasurer.

No matter what the outcome seizing 5 computers from a campaign headquarters has probably finished that campaign.
Couldn't the contents have been transferred, leaving the machines behind. Upon his likely loss it seems the candidate has a class action lawsuit against the PD,
on behalf of all volunteers, and with a cash award equal to actual expenditures.

racially charged letters Latinos are not a "race".
