Doyle Blasts Conservatives For Attack On Actor

(AP) MADISON -- Gov. Jim Doyle blasted conservatives who have accused Michael J. Fox of exaggerating the effects of Parkinson's disease in campaign ads, including one for Doyle in which the actor touts the promise of stem cell research.

Doyle singled out radio commentator Rush Limbaugh who said Fox deliberately went off his medication for maximum impact when he filmed ads for Doyle and two other Democrats. In the ads, Fox shakes visibly as a result of his condition.

Limbaugh and others have noted that Fox acknowledged in a 2002 book that he stopped taking drugs before he testified in front of Congress in 1999. But many advocates of people with Parkinson's, a brain disorder, say taking medication causes victims to shake.

Doyle said he was personally aware of the side effects, noting his mother died earlier this year after a 30-year fight with the disease. "And to anyone like me who has had a parent or child or spouse suffer from Parkinson's, to listen to somebody like Rush Limbaugh suggest that people are exaggerating their condition is just unspeakable," Doyle told reporters. "This is what it has come to. When anybody has the courage to stand up and say how important it is to advance this research, they are subject to this kind of incredible attack."

In the ad, which began running across Wisconsin on Wednesday, Fox calls Doyle a champion for embryonic stem cell research and accuses his Republican opponent, U.S. Rep. Mark Green, of voting against the field in Congress.

A2 is about legalizing human cloning. Folks can read the amendment, and its fine print, for themselves at this link:

No, my friend, what it's actually come to is having Dems hide behind the infirmed, rather than run on their (nonexistent) message.

Doyle, STFU, you namby pamby moron. If Fox wants to jump into the political arena and promote your leftists causes using the "grieving widow" technique, then he better expect to get it from both barrels. Fox is shameless, and so are you.

Fox lied in the ad. Are you suggesting no-one's allowed to call him on it?

The only thing sick here is the cynical attempt to use his disease for political gain.

You don't have a problem with that??

To disagree with a liberal, is to attack them? Nice.

No it wasn't. What is sick is using your victimhood to promote worthless liberal causes. Fox can go pound sand.

I don't know why we just couldn't attack the message and not the messenger. There was surely enough there.

In this case, the messanger IS the message.

Doctors who are authoritataive experts have dismissed MJF claims as nonsense and a cheap political trick.

My father has Parkinsons.

When he's taking the right medications, at the proper dosages, his shaking is reduced.

That's kinda part of the purpose of taking the medications.

Fox used his disease to support experimenting on human children. He deserves to be condemned. Adult cells are showing promise, where fetal cells are just used to endorse and protect abortion. I have lost any respect for Fox I once had.

Don't you think it is a relevant point of discussion if people are making themselves look sicker in order to earn sympathy for the political points they are trying to make?
