Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appears headed for re-election by a landslide -- even though California voters strongly believe Democrats are better suited to handle key issues like the economy, the Iraq war, immigration and the environment, a new poll shows.
The poll by the Public Policy Institute of California shows that Schwarzenegger has an 18-point lead over Democrat state Treasurer Phil Angelides, and has gained so much momentum that even in the Bay Area -- the state's Democratic bastion -- he holds a 6-point lead.
Mark Baldassare, pollster for the Public Policy Institute of California, calls it "just amazing ... particularly in this election year and with the national climate where -- in virtually every poll -- there are signs the country is moving toward the Democrats and away from the Republicans."
Baldassare notes that 38 percent of the Schwarzenegger voters disapprove of President Bush, 37 percent are not Republicans, 27 percent say they don't want Republicans to control Congress, and a quarter say they don't want to vote for the Republicans in their congressional districts.
"Even though Californians are leaning toward Democrats for Congress and they disapprove of Bush in high numbers, they're voting for a Republican for governor," he says.
The poll, taken of 2,002 state residents and 1,572 state registered voters Oct. 15-22, confirms that Californians -- by a 52-to-41 percent ratio -- say they are more likely to vote Democratic than Republican in their congressional districts, and have record-low levels of confidence in both Bush and the government in Washington. . . .

And when he has finished his second term, he'll take Boxer's seat in the Senate.
Take a look at rodent-face. Rodent face is blatantly pro-illegal invader.
Between looks and the illegal invader issue - its no contest.
Besides, the Kennedy boy-toy is pretty liberal on a lot of things which just fine and peachy with the Kalipornia masses.
A huge reason for conservatives to come out and vote in Florida, Penn, Ohio, MO, MT and other places. If Republicans have a bad election cycle and Arnold wins big the reaction will be that the GOP needs to be more moderate.
And when he has finished his second term, he'll take Boxer's seat in the Senate.

where he should have ran in the first place.. imo.
Then he can sit next to his Uncle Teddy and Maria can go back to her career as a talking head..
If McClintock wins the Lt. Gov. race, I hope Arnold resigns in January 2010 in order to (i) campaign full-time for Boxer's Senate seat and (ii) allow McClintock to be the incumbent Governor months prior to the primary and general election.
I'm not sure what that would get him, other than a token incumbancy. We'll see what it takes to sell McClintock.
