CA: Plenty at stake for parties in less prominent races (R may win 5 of 8 downticket races!)

"Labor is very interested in several down-ballot races -- particularly lieutenant governor," said Steve Smith, a veteran Democratic consultant working with the labor coalition.

"One candidate, John Garamendi, has a long positive relationship with labor. The other, Tom McClintock, from our perspective is completely outside the mainstream," Smith said. "We would prefer not to see him advance."

While voters often overlook down-ballot offices, the stakes for the unions and for Democrats are big considering that Republicans could win five of the eight statewide offices -- a big turnaround from 2002, when Democrats swept all of them.

"That would be very bad for Democrats," said Raphael Sonenshein, a political scientist at Cal State Fullerton. "All along, the Democrats have calculated that Arnold would win, but they would take all the other offices and have a deep bench for years to come.

That's why it's important to get out and VOTE STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN TICKET for ALL offices!

This will be a major blow to the Dems and could start a Republican resurgence in CA.

Why are conservatives considered to be outside of the "mainstream?" Aren't approximately 50% of all Americans conservatives? Freaking unions, using my money, to defeat my candidate, because he and I are out of the "mainstream." They don't mind taking my money, though, because they know better than I do what is right and good for the state.

With Arnie setting the tone maybe Kali voters have decided it's not so bad to have Republicans in office since they enact Socialist legislation as reliably as the Dems ever did.

What's in a name? In Kali, if you're a Republican, nothing.

Yeah, this from the party that is fronting an illegal candidate - Jerry Brown! "Moonbeam" Brown is unqualified to run for Attorney General according to California Law, yet his name remains on the ballot until the court decides something that a five year old could!

According to this article, Jerry Brown appears to be ahead in his race for AG. This really bothers me.

You answered your own question. We're out of the "mainstream" because liberals know what is best for us.

Yes, let's vote Republican and broaden the definition of a hate crime to include an explanation of voter eligibility and lend credibility to the National Council of La Raza (NCLR).

You bet. Go Republican!

I had a Democratic candidate for County Commissioner call me the other day. I told him that I simply couldn't vote for a Democrat at any level of office. When he asked why I told him that all politics are local, to strenthen the Democratic Party at the county level makes it stronger at the state level. Making it stronger at the state level makes it stronger at the national level and I simply couldn't trust US security and prosperity to Nancy Peolisi, Dick Durban and Ted Kennedy. When he said that they were running in my state I told him it didn't make any difference; I saw a vote for a Democrat at local level the same as a a vote for Hillary by proxy. Do I like that type of decision, no. But from my point of view I have no choice.

Unfortunately Jerry Brown is not only ahead, but ahead by a large margin, unfortunately headed for victory, barring some major event. I don't know why Republicans aren't hammering him. It will be a disgrace to have him as AG of CA.

Funny that the "Taxpayer Protection committee" is against the bond props: 1B-1E, 84, but is NOT against the REAL TAX RAISING propositions 86 to 89.

Not much "TAXPAYER PROTECTION" in their stance.

Have you noticed the "outside the mainstream" line only comes from the Left? It's from the Boxer handbook. She even used it on the milquetoast Matt Fong.

"Spoken like a true democrat hack."

Do these "republican" or "democrat" labels even matter anymore? In no other country has the shape of party politics been frozen in the way it has in America, a sclerosis no one has been able to cure. There is no American Tory or Labor party, no Social Democrats or Christian Democrats, still less any serious parties to further right or left. And the truth is that the differences between Democrats and Republicans - even supposedly liberal Democrats and supposedly conservative Republicans - have often been slight by political standards in other advanced representative republics. Maybe the strangehold the "two" party system has on other parties getting into the act has something to do with this.
