Red Dawn baby.....ready ?
They certainly were informed by the ideas of Christianity, and Harvard, Yale, and Brown were founded as seminaries, while Columbia was associated with Anglicanism. However, Dartmouth was founded to spread a non-sectarian Christianity to the Indians, and Cornell, Princeton, and the U. of Pennsylvania were not associated with any specific religious organizations.
Just imagine if Georgetown had operated under their current philosophy in 1942:
The Center for Nazi-American Understanding at Georgetown University has been renamed after Reichsmarshal Herman Goering donated $20 million to its projects. And while that may be just the tail, the dog appears to be moving away from its historic Catholic and Jesuit teaching philosophy too.
The Center's leaders say it now will be used to put on workshops regarding Fascism, fostering exchanges with the Fascist world, addressing U.S. policy towards Nazi Germany, working on the relationship of Fascism and German culture, addressing Aryan citizenship and civil liberties, and developing exchange programs for students from the Nazi world.
It's kind of a bizarro version of Back to the Future.
