Notably, he believed the ships were lined up at Pearl Harbor so they would be a more "tempting target" to the Japanese.

I wouldn't necessarily use the Pearl Harbor bit to show his ignorance. I don't think that view point calls for the tinfoil hat.

Are you trying to say that FDR lined up the ships in a certain fashion to make it easier for the Japanese to hit them?

For one thing, four of the battleships were double-moored so two were protected from torpedoes. If FDR wanted them sunk, he should have ordered no double-mooring. Then again, thinking that FDR actually determined ship anchorage locations is pretty insane anyway.

Folks,

I gotta tell you, if you have not traveled outside the US and watched CNN Int'l, you cannot appreciate how anti-American they truly are. With regulars like Andrea Koppel and Christian Ammanpour spewing out their hate America drivel every day, it's painful to watch/listen.

Up until President GHWB Almost all wars were started by the Democrats. Hence the saying
: "Hold on to your war bonds, the Democrats are in power."

You forgot:
LBJ escalated Viet Nam.
Clinton got us involved in the Balkans.
And Carter is the major cause of all the mess in the Mid-East.

"Are you trying to say that FDR lined up the ships in a certain fashion to make it easier for the Japanese to hit them?"

Of course not. Merely pointing out that Pearl Harbor is not a cut and dry issue. To detail the oddities surrounding that fateful day would take a text book to adequately address. If FDR did in fact allow Pearl Harbor to happen to motivate us into the war then I would call that a criminal act of the worst kind. However you stand on the subject at best we have gross incompetence on the part of the administation and the military command. In the end we won the war that needed winning and Pearl Harbor as well as some of our biggest losses (of life) during the war stand in stark contrast to how far we've gone in the other direction. Our national fortitude and resolve seem to crumble in the face of a media onslaught with casualties that pale next to past wars. In today's world FDR would have been hamstrung if not worse. As for Pearl Harbor I don't think he ever paid a price and I think history has given him a pass as well.

None of your points relate to what that allegedly intelligent caller Dave said. Dave did not say there was "gross incompetence on the part of the administation and the military command" -- that statement is blatantly obvious. Dave said that the ships were lined up to make them easier to attack. The fact that Dave would make such a ridiculous claim -- to "prove" we have been "lied to" for 200 years -- when FDR is a liberal hero shows just how far gone some of our fellow citizens are.

Callers and shows and stations like that aren't even Left Wing -- Left is a direction and these idiots aren't even that organized. They aren't intelligent -- they are anti-intelligent.

I wasn't taking his statement 'lined up' literally nor do I think that was how it was intended. Not even the kookiest of kooks think FDR drew up the line of ships. What folks do think is that he brought all the ships of the line into the harbor so as to be a more attractive target and I understood that particular point. That is the nature of the argument. FDR stands accused not just of allowing Pearl to happen but of having our ships in the harbor. The argument is how unusual it was that the aircraft carriers were out to sea without their usual escort. We couldn't afford to lose our carriers but the line ships.....

The first host then said they were revealing things that are supposed to be "secrets" about how radio works.

Better, revealing CNN's secrets on how they selectively choose their "man on the street" interviews and portray it as some sort of evidence to what the rest of the nation is thinking.

The host was saying that America has been a terrorist country, the world will always be full of terrorism, and on 9-11 Osama Bin Laden was just saying "Welcome to the World, America." She was also complaining about "Why the Hell do Americans always have to win everything?" She said she'd rather have her kid "be a loser and alive, than a winner and dead."

Moron. If your kid loses against the enemy we are fighting against, your kid wont be allowed to live.

I can't say the ships were lined up, but the planes were in order to make them easier to protect from sabotage.

What folks do think is that he brought all the ships of the line into the harbor so as to be a more attractive target and I understood that particular point. That is the nature of the argument. FDR stands accused not just of allowing Pearl to happen but of having our ships in the harbor.

Admiral Kimmel flatly denied that he had orders to keep his ships in port during his testimony to the Congressional Committee in 1946.

The argument is how unusual it was that the aircraft carriers were out to sea without their usual escort. We couldn't afford to lose our carriers but the line ships.....

So FDR deliberately decided that the BBs were expendable but not the CVs? He ordered Kimmel which ships to send out and which to keep in port because FDR knew the Japanese were watching Pearl and would have not attacked if the BBs were not in port? Why didn't Kimmel bring any of this up when he was before the Committee? Kimmel despised FDR and was furious that the Pearl disaster forced him out of the war. Furthermore, in 1941 the primacy of the CV over the BB had not yet been established. At that time, for example, no BB or BC had EVER been sunk at sea by ANY air attack, much less carrier-based air only.

Your position not only makes no sense, but you have ZERO evidence to support it. It's just another lunatic conspiracy theory.
