Same is true of corn ethanol, despite what many whazoo-apertures around here say.

Just wait until the libs in California find out about it -- they will try and put a tax on that too. (Proposition 87 for the Californians in the crowd).

I think you could genetically cross the soybean and the kudzu and create a rapid growth, high oil output, cellulose (ethanol) product that would just about solve all of our problems.

Beans, beans, the musical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot. The more you toot the better you feel so please eat beans at every meal.

I would like to see a comparison of how much Diesel/Biodiesel per acre can be made versus ethanol per acre of corn. Any clues?..........

The real trick will be genetically modifying soy bean plants so that the fix enough nitrogen that you can havest the soybeans (sell the nice ones at a premium as edamame, and turn the rest into biodiesel and cattle feed) and don't need to fertilize the field to plant corn the next year. (Most of the farm-related energy cost of ethanol is in the fertilizer.)
Unfortunately, as I understand it naturally occuring soybean plants don't fix nitrogen efficiently enough: it seems to get a net increas in soil nitrogen you have to plow the whole crop under, soybeans and all.
