According to a report from gaming legislation news site GamePolitics, anti-game lawyer Jack Thompson has himself come under fire from lawyers representing publisher Take-Two Interactive, who have called for Thompson to be held in contempt of court. While it remains unclear as to the exact nature of this request, it most likely stems from comments following Thompson's most recent failed attempt to prevent the recently released controversial title Bully from being sold in Florida.
Thompson had originally requested that he be provided with an advance copy of Bully in order to help determine if the game should be considered a public nuisance within the state of Florida, a request which he was awarded. However, a later hearing on the possible banning of the game resulted in Miami-Dade County judge Ronald Friedman handing down a decision that Bully would be allowed to be sold, explaining that the controversial title did not feature gameplay or content that warranted it from being banned from sale.
According to the report, the contempt of court request could find Thompson facing jail time, though it is more likely that fines, judicial admonishment or censure would result from this most recent turn of events. The report also notes that attorneys representing the Philadelphia law firm Blank-Rome have filed a Petition for Order to Show Cause, which requires Thompson to illustrate to a judge why he should not be held in contempt.
In an email to GamePolitics, Thompson has responded to this request, writing, You want to play hardball
? You want to try to throw me in jail? You have no idea what you are unleashing in doing this. Youre at the brink
Hoo boy. Sounds familiar. He never changes, does he?
I remember when he was here. He got into a lot of arguments.
On another forum I posted a couple of articles unfavorable to a militia group down south.
Unbeknownst to me, BatJack was one of their leaders.
In reply he sent me a couple of abusive emails at least I think they were abusive because they weren't entirely comprehensible.
Yeah, familiar. Reminds me of the wild old days on FR. Jack and I never really crossed swords IIRC, mostly because it's hard to hold an intelligent debate with inchoate rage. Strange feller, Jack. Strange and angry.
BatJack has his own page on Wikipedia:

Gosh, I wonder whoever could have written this hagiography?
LOL! You gotta be kiddin' me! ROTFLMAO!
What a loon.

As much as I'd like to reflect on old times, I can't discuss pending litigation...
Ever since he was found to be "Sane", by the Florida Bar, he's been working to disprove it.
What was his name here?
this guy was before my time here, but it sounds like he's at least on the side of protecting children, so I'll give him credit for that.
Batjack.
Jack is very passionate about his beliefs and while his showmanship sometimes conflicts with judicial thugs no one should ever doubt his sincerity and dedication to whatever cause he champions.
Jack is a gentleman who simply calls 'em as he sees 'em, much like many pundits hereabout.
He lawyers gooder than 99% of the Gucci Gulch crowd.
Thanks - I didn't know if he really went by BatJack or that was a nickname given by some who knew him well.
... Over every single issue under the sun. He was a forum porcupine. He flipped out, called us a bunch of names, and left.
Most people were left wondering 'What the heck was he all upset about?'. Nearly incoherent, he was.
When a lawyer him being an officer of the court and all threatens to sue people (people plural, not person singular) just for disagreeing with him then I think it is fair to say that several of his personal and lawlerly attributes are open to serious question.

How PERFECT!
BatJack - Jack Thompson. Florida attorney and former FReeper known for anti-Janet Reno crusades, and for threatening lawsuits against other FReepers. JT was accused of trying to hijack FR and turn it into "JackRepublic.com," a term coined by FReeper Registered (see below). The name "BatJack" apparently resulted from information that Thompson made public appearances in a Batman costume. Thompson was banned once, reinvited and left again. Last Thompson opus thread.
Agreed. His sincerity and dedication not in question, it's his inability to get along with others on his own team which has crippled his effectiveness.
