It appears to be centered approximately 180 miles NNW of Iwo Jima.
Dunno, I think it's subduction zone. Just a little further south is the Mariana Trench.
At first glance it looks like Fox News is going beyond winning in the ratings and is now winning on the Richter Scale.
LOL!
515 km (320 miles) NNW of Iwo-jima, Volcano Islands, Japan
That's about the half-way point between Tokyo and Iwo Jima.
Does that bring back memories?
I think you are correct. Divergence plates are found in the mid atlantic. A subduction plate would be in an area with high earthquake and volcanic activity.
Any word on tsunami activity???
Well, this *is* FR, I'm sure we'll have someone who actually knows along in a bit...
You all ok there? Keep us posted when you can..
Sort of ... I went thru Parris Island in the spring of 1964 ... 19 years after the landing on Iwo Jima. One of the motivational/history of the Corps films we were shown was the amphibious landing and subsequent battle on Iwo. One of the shots taken was by a Marine combat cameraman as a Jap shell exploded in the frame ... he was killed but the film was recovered.
