I lived through 1968 (although only 12 years old). I was aware of all these events but probably not their global significance. Truly they were "Interesting Times". Not good.

1968 : (AVIATION / INTELIGENCE : OXCART PROGRAM TERMINATED IN FAVOR OF SLOWER SR-71) OXCART was terminated in favor of an Air Force modification - the SR-71. That plane carried a 2-man crew rather than just a pilot and flew somewhat slower (Mach 3.0) than OXCART - although it carried a greater variety of sensors. The replacement of the OXCART with the SR-71 in 1968 was the result of a multi-year bureaucratic battle involving the CIA, Air Force, National Reconnaissance Office, and Bureau of the Budget.
