Assault charges have been filed against a father and a referee following an altercation at a pee-wee football game in Northeast Philadelphia.
Police say 40-year-old Wayne Durkotch of Philadelphia complained that his son wasn't playing enough Sunday in a game for six-year-olds at Burholme Park.
During the argument, police say, Durkotch pulled out a loaded gun.
Police say Durkotch's brother also began fighting with a referee and the referee, 39-year-old Shawn Henwood of Philadelphia, punched the brother.
Police broke up the fights charged Durkotch with aggravated assault and related offences. The referee was charged with simple assault.
Police say no shots were fired and no one sought medical treatment.
Hey Coach, put my kid in or I am gonna have to pop a cap in ya!
Father needs to seek mental health treatment.
If the Coach isn't putting the boy in more, why is the father taking it out on the Ref?
Jim Rome list ping worthy?
That's how Pee Wee (game) rage goes.
The gunslinging dad must be an Eagles fan.
You should never have complained to your mom. Sports and moms don't mix.
as a former little league umpire, i can say that the parents are the worst thing about little league....i was threatened with bodily harm, had to eject cussing and swearing parents, and one time had to have the coaches escort me to my car before i would sign the game books....
When a physical threat or really obscene language was directed toward the field and I was an umpire, I'd stop the game and go to the stands. My statement was simple, either knock it off or I'd cancel the game, call the police and press charges against the perp. {I always had my .38 in my vehicle}.
you would think incidents like that would be rare...but they occur at just about every game...plain old disgusting ( and to think i got paid a whole 15 bucks a game to put up with it )
just out of curiousity, can we get a proper order of events here. i wouldn't think there are many people dumb enough to slug a guy right after his brother brandished a weapon.

I will coach, but never umpire or ref youth sports for that very reason. I'm probably more unfair to my own kids as far as playing time oges. It's easier to hear them complain than the brats moms.
I do officiate swimming, though. There are very few low-class trash types in youth swimming.
Oh yeah, it's moms. Note the article is about men. A couple of weeks ago there was a video clip on the news of a dad storming the field and taking out a football player for the other team. Oh, and dads NEVER live (or try to relive) their "glory days" again through their kids. No, never.
I will have to disagree with you, WVMM. I have two sons who played football, baseball, and basketball. Thinking back on it, I feel like I spent half my peak years doing something connected to these sports. I can attest to the fact that the mothers are worse than the dads. It seems to be a cumulative effect, since I saw the same moms game after game, year in year out.
The only dads I ever saw that behaved horribly were all one type. So far out of line that I would never even sit near them, and as I write this, I can see the face of that scuzzy loser who wrecked every single peewee football game for everybody. It took four years to get him tossed out.
I think of the men like this as having "Wayne Syndrome" and if you look at the article again, you will notice that the dad with the gun is...WAYNE!
