Hamas is a recognized terrorist organization. Anyone belonging to Hamas belongs to a terrorist organization. Islam is not a recognized terrorist organization. It is a religion. A screwed up religion, but a religion nonetheless. Neither West Point, your local police department or your kid's pre-school can exclude a person for being a Muslim.
"Muslims at the U.S. Military Academy numbered just two in 2001. This year, there are 32"
There's the troubling part of the entire article imo. While some here have been debating about the legalities of allowing Muslims into West Point, I'm looking at what appears to me like a change in quotas since 9/11. Freshman class admittance has not changed since 9/11 and in fact, applications in 2004 to USMA were down 11%, yet the student population of Muslims is obviously increasing. This begs an explanation.
"If" in fact, a new policy of affirmative action for Muslims has been implemented that IS troubling.
so you answer is "yes", we could exclude the candidate for being in Hamas.
so at least it appears you agree that these cadets should be investigated. after all, how are we supposed to find out if a particular cadet is in Hamas, unless we investigate them? what do we expect, he's going to write it on his west point application.
