The deal in France has something to do with the complex inter-relationships among the way you trade in a used car for a new one, make a claim on your automobile insurance, and avoid taxes on the benefit of the deal.

It's been some time but some of the older threads have full descriptions of the process that leads 112 Frenchmen per day to torch their old cars ~ and almost always in nasty neighborhoods ~ even if they don't live there.

Back during the disturbances the daily burn rate rose to over 400 cars. Everybody in the country took advantage of the auto insurance system (which I think seems to be state run).

Hmm. How many cars are torched here in the US despite our position on the war?

If someone torched my car as a political statement, I'd track them down and administer justice just on the principle of the thing.
