I agree... it's the same base sort of impulses. The only real difference is that while Islam codifies a theological structure with Mosques etc, Liberalism leaves it all as a personal experience by exalting the ego. Therefore under liberalism anything which damages the ego is evil, ("hate speech", any objective morality or egalitarian concepts which deny them their elitist superiority etc.) while under Islam it's anything that threatens the political structure of the faith.
But it's a good point all the same... I agree ... very similar.
