Yeah, I've known Conrad for many years. You know a person by the company they keep and the people around Conrad are good, solid people. His personal lawyer, Myron Nordquist, is my HS drinking buddy. "My" as we call him and I both went out for Navy ROTC(full ride scholarship). I was in the National Guard at the time and thus not a "virgin", he on the other hand is the best BSer I've ever known. He went on to get his Juris Doctor, chief legal counsel to Sec of Navy and Sec of AF, political insider in DC for many years now. You may remember the general who bitched out clinton? Well, "my" told me at a class reunion that HE was the one who had to sign the papers actually firing him....Interestingly enough, the local lutheran church that he attended in his youth also produced Lois(Grimsrud)Capps, congrsswoman(D-22nd)from CA(my's and my friend Tom's sister). Small world.......Anyway, the tester crowd make complete fools of themselves at each debate : noisy, obnoxious, foul mouth punks from the missoula liberal snake pit, typical of dems(dem+on=).....Funny(local color)story : At (Gov)Judy Martz's election night in Butte(Warbonnet Inn)6 years ago we were running behind in the early returns(and Florida was a toss-up). As we passed each other I asked her : Are we going to lose this one Judy? OH NO she said, that's just early returns from MISSOULA, the good precincts are still to come...She went on to win handily of course. She's a very fine lady, GOD grant that Katherine Harris follows in her footsteps.

How very interesting! I am going to ping a Montana FReeper friend to your post.

"GOD grant that Katherine Harris follows in her footsteps."

'She's so clearly completely cut off from reality, and is about to end a respectable career with a very ignoble defeat, that I can't help but feel sorry for her. '

So its a crime for her to aim for higher office?

If GW Bush had the same defeatist attitude like you, he would not even been a Governor let alone the President.

Optimism takes a long way in politics, win or lose Harris was the primary winner and will give a good fight. It is ridiculous to hang on to the past and think what may have happened if so and so had run instead of harris, it is such a defeatist negative liberal thinking, the positive thing is to think what is feasible and support Harris and her candidacy.

Katherine Harris played a HUGE role in GWBs win in 2000, I KNOW the holy american spirit was at work there. It was a MIRACLE(1 vote of 500 in FL and thus the electoral college win over the OZONE MAN). Miracles still happen, hope and pray that the same good spirits are there for her in 2 weeks...

As someone postulated yesterday on this forum, if Harris did badly in this debate, today it would be front page news. Looking at today's SHT (that's "Sarasota Herald-Tribune"), it appears that the best they can come up with was that Harris' comments "did not light a much-needed fire". From their lips to God's ear, as usual...

An online streaming video of the debate can be found HERE (with a tip of the hat to FReeper "OXENinFLA").

From your negative perception of Ms. Harris, it is painfully obvious that you have swallowed the BS that the leftmedia has been attempting to shove down the public's throats since she "handed Bush the presidency" in late 2000.

As Goethe stated long ago, "Nothing is more terrifying than ignorance in action".

I think she did really well last night.

There were some points where she stumbled in her words, but that can be expected during a live timed debate. You're so worried about saying everything you want to convey you step on your own words.

I do kinda wish she would have stayed behind the lectern. As soon as she stepped out I knew that would make reports.

Nelson brushes off Harris' attacks

The hourlong debate at Nova Southeastern University offered Florida voters a sharp contrast not only on a wide range of international and domestic issues, ranging from the war in Iraq to global warming to hurricane disaster response, but also in the styles of the two candidates.

Nelson, a Democrat from Orlando completing his first term in the Senate, stayed behind the podium, often looking into the camera to address the audience at home.

Harris, a Republican congresswoman from Longboat Key, wandered away from the podium and filled the center stage, gesturing widely and speaking primarily to the studio audience and those who asked the questions.

Asked about her demeanor, she said, "I don't like standing behind a desk."

Just a bit slanted to the left.....

Just a bit slanted to the left.....

Probably so..... I only saw a few minutes of the debate but it seemed like a distraction to me when she walked out from behind the podium and clasped her hands or fingers to fingers during her answers.... I think from my perspective she may have done better staying behind the podium most of the time and keeping her hands on the podium except to make specific points.

All said I think she did well and hopefully she'll prevail in the end. The voters definitely have a distinct choice.

If GW Bush had the same defeatist attitude like you, he would not even been a Governor let alone the President.

Are you actually so illogical to think this comparison fits at all?

For the record: If GWB had run for President, had the de-facto effect of scaring others off running and fought to win the primaries based only on his famous last name, even in spite of all the evidence not only that he was the weakest candidate, but could not win and could drag others down with him, then I'd resent him too, because he'd be putting ego before cause, just like Harris has done.

And what BS is that? That she can't win?

If that's MSM BS, then National Review is MSM BS, because they called on her to step aside before the primary, knowing she couldn't win.

Isn't that a bit egocentric of you, to think we would bother to blame you for her loss?

It wouldn't be egocentric on my part, it would be a weird obsession on your part.

But that said, you misunderstand. I didn't mean that I'd be blamed personally, I mean that the Harris Kool-Aid drinkers would blame me and other realist Republicans who saw her as the disaster she is a long time ago, and you'd argue that if we 'really believed in her' and 'really got behind her' that it somehow would have made a difference.

It wouldn't have, but they'll need something to stop their fantasy world from crumbling.

Rick Santorm is an incumbent Senator who, even if he does lose, probably had the best shot at keeping the seat of anybody else. The situation is completely different.

And I don't see how you can logically think that his chances are worse then Harris' when he's within single digits, has raised FAR more money then Harris, while Harris has not raised much money, has reniged on her promise to donate however many million to her own campaign, and is trailing by as many as 30pts in the polls.

"And what BS is that? That she can't win?"

That falsehood was just the capper. Your pejoratives are right out of the leftmedia "fact"book.

The NRs take was more of the "kick 'em when you think they're down" variety, which I also mentioned.

None of this is honorable.

The situation is completely different.

I never said they were the same.

Rick Santorum is an incumbent Senator...

Yep, and even with the advantages of incumbency, he is still behind.

(Harris) is trailing by as many as 30pts in the polls.

Lets see where the polls go in the next week. I doubt that the double digit gap will persist. There is a move going on here, Harris got a big boost from the debate last night, and will get another big boost from the next debate.

That said, I'm not predicting a Harris win. I won't go that far out on this particular limb, but I am VERY sure we are now looking a something like a 6% spread that should become manifest in the polls over the next week or so.

It is doable.

Maybe all that you say is true, but we actually vote, and then we count them.

In your world, they'd be giving the NCAA trophy to Ohio State right now and not play the games.

If Ohio State's only opponent was, say, the Riverdale Jr. High Football team, yes, I think we could safely give them the trophy.

That's basically the matchup here.

Now we're supposed to support Republicans "THROUGH BROKEN GLASS", but apparently that doesn't apply to Harris.

Or, apparently, Schlesinger in Connecticut. Either that or Bush isn't a 'broken glass' Republican.

You told us that you have been here since before 2000!!!

Under what name then???
