SAN DIEGO
A Camp Pendleton Marine will plead guilty next week for his role in the killing of an Iraqi man last April, his father said Friday.
Pfc. John J. Jodka, 20, of Encinitas will plead guilty to assault and obstruction of justice, father John Jodka told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. In exchange for the plea, murder, kidnapping and other charges will be dropped, the elder Jodka said.
Jodka is one of seven Marines and one Navy corpsman who were charged in the murder of Hashim Ibrahim Awad in the town of Hamdania, west of Baghdad. As part of a separate plea negotiation, the corpsman recently testified about what he remembers from the incident.
Jodka would be the first Marine to plead guilty in the case.
Word of Jodka's plea deal was first reported on the North County Times' Web site Friday afternoon.
once they rolled the first guy by holding him in handcuffs 23 hours a day, it was just a matter of time before the others cut any deal they could get.
2 things you don't want to be these days or so it might seem of late,, border agents and combat Marines.
well put.
I'm concerned we won't actually get to hear the evidence in this case.
This has been going on for such a long period of time that it just seems to me like they've finally broke some of them.
There have been other cases where investigators and prosecutors have ridden people so hard that they eventually confessed to things they actually didn't do.
I still want a trial so I can "see things for myself".
And you have a problem with that?
You deserve each other.
so you think its OK to handcuff them 23 hours a day in prison, until one of them (the weakest one, with a new wife and baby) - breaks. you want the basis for this court martial to be testimony obtained by using such treatment?
hell, why not just waterboard them then. are you in favor of that? let's waterboard some marines to obtain testimony. what the hell, you don't seem to have a problem with what has taken place so far - so what's wrong with a little "rough stuff" for these marines.
in the meantime, prisoners at Gitmo are having the orange chicken tonight, with rice and mixed vegetables.
Bad things happen in war zones..
No? On both sides..
Thanks for the Bump and sharing an opinion.
Shouldn't you be on DU instead of here?
Whatever happened to DOING THE RIGHT THING?
Where's your concern for the dead fifteen year old girl and the rest of her murdered family?
Government prosecuters always let a co-conspirator go if their testimony will convict...in this case COLD-BLOODED, PRE-MEDITATED, DISGRACEFUL murderers.
Just because they were wearing the proud uniforms of our Marines or Army at the time...or happen to be in a war zone doesn't excuse them.
But...you knew that already, didn't you?

I'm writing your comment off as a simple brainfart.
I've been reading and enjoying your posts for too many years.
are you out of your mind, we are talking about a US MARINE here. not a terrorist. you don't want to set any bounds on what the military can do TO ONE OF OUR OWN SOLDIERS to compel testimony?
and this is not the case about the 15 year old girl.
I find the breaking our our boys disgusting. IMO our marines are heroes and should be given medals for what they do; our volunteers represent our best and brightest! So they got carried away doing their job. We do not want to win this war! At the least our military should have a bias toward blanket amnesty when our soldiers are operating in a war zone. Instead we too quickly are willing to accept the word of the enemy to undermine our own. The enemy loves to do us in with our own laws and practices. Thanks to deep prejudice by the likes of Murtha, our marines are suffering humilation and worse in what appears to be a politically motivated prosecution by our own armed forces. Better they were incarcerated at Guantanomo; the enemy has more rights and privileges! IMO this is a show trial to placate the Democrats because the military in charge are looking past November.
Americans wearing a military uniform are held to a higher standard than say, a UPS driver wearing the brown.
They aren't afforded special protection when charged with a felony murder.
It's a messy situation either way.. I feel for all the families.
Amen!
special protection? these guys got far less then that. somebody who knocks off a 7-11 gets 100 times more protection then this.
someone in the military structure wants these guys fried at any and all costs, they want a show trial, perhaps even an execution.
I'll tell you, you are so right! If you are a Border Patrol, be sure to look the other way. If you are a Marine, be REAL nice.
Doesn't make sense to me, and that is an understatement.
