HARRISBURG, Pa. - A gunman who killed five girls and wounded five others inside a one-room Amish schoolhouse, then killed himself, had no drugs in his system, a coroner said Friday.
"The toxicology is negative across-the-board," said Lancaster Coroner Gary Kirchner, after reviewing the lab results with his office's forensic pathologist. "We expected this."
The results were a dead end in the search for answers to what caused Charles Carl Roberts IV, a 32-year-old father of three with no prior criminal record, to attack the girls in a school about a mile from his home in rural Lancaster County on Oct. 2.
Roberts, whose job as a milk-tanker driver took him to Amish farms in the area, had been scheduled to take a drug test the morning of the siege. But authorities had previously said they doubted it was a factor in the shootings. Such tests are standard for state-licensed truck drivers in Pennsylvania.

So he was an even lower form of vermin...
Doesn't surprise me..
Sometimes, people snap.
I think it is unfortunate that the cops rushed the place without confirming that their attempt would succeed. Someone might have used a peep camera to notice that he had boarded the doors up from the inside. The additional delay in entry ended up leaving those kids dead.
This is not to blame the cops... he did the crime, but I just wish they had been a bit better trained.

Sometimes folks are just plain crazy.
Has Rendell started beating the gun control drum yet?
Please inform yourself of the facts before making such comments.
The cops did not "rush the place" until after the shooting started. They pulled up at the school, and then the perp, who was on the phone to a radio station, said he would start shooting in seconds if they did not leave. And then he didn't even give the cops time to fall back before he started shooting.
He did the opposite here. He was one of the few on the left who exercised restraint in not trying to make a gun control argument here - instead, he said no legislation could have stopped this.
Or possessed. Or both.
This is different from what I heard.
I would be more than happy to update my facts. Do you have a reference?
I heard that they had surrounded the place and when they attempted entry (after hearing that he was sexually molesting the girls) they discovered the doors were nailed shut from the inside and by the time they got inside, everyone was dead.
Please update my facts. I would appreciate it.
This one was about as pure an evil that you hope you never see. His wife is a nutter that covers for him.
Obviously, the government needs to step in and crackdown on people who don't use drugs.
Source it.
No, his wife is not a nut. I haven't seen her cover for him. She just said that this surprised her. From what I've read, he had said or done nothing that would have lead anyone to think this even possible. She's probably still in shock. But she HAS publicly thanked the Amish for their warmth toward her and forgiveness of him.
Here's a timeline:

You're probably confusing details from the Colorado school shooting with this one.
Ping!
Thanks
Perhaps he went cold turkey off anti-depressants. That might clear his system of drugs and still throw him off the rails.
"...[Gov. Rendell] said no legislation could have stopped this."
And he's certainly right about that. Anybody as wacked out as this guy would have killed those girls, or some other group of innocents, one way or another.
Remember the Happy Land Nightclub fire in NYC where the spurned lover bought $1.00 worth of gasoline and set the place on fire, iirc he killed about 70 people.
They have the toxicology screens done; what about the autopsy? A brain tumor/lesion could explain why he snapped. I think it was the gunman, many years ago, in Texas (who shot from the tower on a college campus) and he was found to have had a brain tumor.
