An NJ Judge has found that Camden city government, police department, and a 911 operator have no responsibility to prevent the kidnapping and murder of a 27 year old woman. Therefore, none of them can be sued for failing to perform their jobs. This is the same government and court system that denies that same 27-year-old woman the tools to defend her body and life on her own.
What was the basis for the lawsuit?
The 27-year-old victim's mother, Linda Reis, blamed the 911 operator and others for not responding to a call from someone who said he saw two men forcing a woman into a car. [empasis added -ed]
The best advice Dick Codey, president of the NJ Senate and former acting governor had for women in New Jersey to keep themselves safe was:

Either New York, or California, if memory serves. What it amounted to was, people were calling the police for help from areas where there were riots going on, and the police were either unwilling or unable to respond. I honestly think it was unwilling, but that could be my bad memory.
Anyway, USSC ruled that you can't sue the cops for NOT coming to your aid.
Well if that's the case and IF I ever get that message from 911 I'll have the perfect reply that will get them there.
"You mean you're not coming? Ok, I'll take care of it with a machinegun and some hand grenades"
the other alternate response: [BANG] "What about the cop in the street that was just shot ?"

Because politicians keep calling for "More cops on the streets!"

Yup, more cops write more tickets which means more income for the city. More cops means they can set up stings to catch johns and prostitues, which pay fines and leave jail. More cops means they can set up stings to catch drug dealers and keep the assets in the city.
More cops DO NOT mean more protection, that's for sure

"Because politicians keep calling for "More cops on the streets!""
If the liberals would disarm cops like they try to do everyone else, the gangbangers would put more cops on the streets.

The other day I saw one man threatening another in traffic with a KNIFE You must not be in Texas then. That would have gotten him killed here.

Well, he wasn't in the car, his aid was running errands for him in NJ and was beaten and carjacked.
Sorry about his aide. But for a moment I thought we had another "Ransom of Red Chief" on our hands!

Hopefully, they were held accountable in other ways, like losing their jobs.

The cops have two purposes: collect revenue and arrest criminals after they committed a crime. Historically, that's been the justification for establishing police. Its never been in the history of this country, about protecting individuals. That's the truth, no matter what else they may show on TV cop shows.

This isn't news. It's been well-settled law in every state since there have been local constabularies.

Simple rule to remember:
Retrieve your gun first and be ready to use it. Only then do you use the phone to call 911.

The police typically get there after someone's dead. Better pray it isn't you.

The reason I'm huge on self-defense is because it WAS almost me. I would be six feet under right now if weren't for our janitor working with us at the time. He was a cop working a second job and saved my butt one night when a lunatic got his hands on my throat. He kept the loon pinned down for twenty looonnnng minutes before the county mounties finally arrived.
To: Ladysmith
Your point illustrates my post for me as nothing else does: our life is truly in our hands. If we expect the police to keep it for us, we're in for a nice little row in the cemetery - and cemeteries are full of deluded people who believed society owed them their life. There's just so much brainwashing going on about the benevolent and helpful state. Its all a lie.

But taxpayers ARE obligated to pay their salaries.

This ruling is no surprise. The idea of Sovereign immunity is well founded in Common Law.
I do however think that denying self defense to persons is way wrong. One of very reason the law allows self defense is because police are not be expected to have a duty to protect the individual vs a duty to protect the public.
This being the case it becomes the right and duty of the individual to protect himself, his family and his home. By whatever means necessary.

Get a gun, join the NRA, and if your town won't let you defend your life get out!
To: lastchance
The right of self-defense preceded the creation of the state and the organization of government. All of our gun control laws are unconstitutional because they take away a right government is not allowed to take away in the first place.

In 1857 we did not have nearly as many police per capita and citizen could defend themselves. If the Government is going to be more pervasive in our lives, they have to take responsibility for it.
