Um....didn't we get Alito AFTER the Meirs Debate?

That's a bit different. One man making one choice, which can be appproved or not by the worthies in the Senate. As opposed to voters in 50 states making many choices, which will affect us all but about which we can do nothing.

Um....didn't we get Alito AFTER the Meirs Debate? Yes, but Alito was already poised to get a seat. Miers was to be a team player, Alito is a individualist and it's too early to make a judgment as to how he will perform. This years cases may tell the tale, but I am quite sure miers would have been just fine and would have followed Thomas and Scalia. Alito is not a team player IMO.
