Queies: 1. Why is it is not mentioned until halfway through the 1000 word story that Miami's President is Donna Shalala?

2. Why is it that she isn't identified as "University President and former Clinton Cabinet Member Donna Shalala"?

3. Do ya think if Miami's president was a former Bush cabinet officer, the lede might be, "Former Bush cabinet secretary and Miami President Joe Smith responded to the rampatant culture of criminality exhibited by his football team after his players assaulted members of the FIU football team and fans in the stands at Saturday's game."

Waddayathink?

Every person that rushed the field should be banned all season.

Every person who swung or kicked should be banned from NCAA sporting events.

Every person who used an object (helmet, etc) should be banned, kicked out of the University, and charged with a felony of aggravated assault.

I think they should build a wall around that cesspool they call a university and make it a prison. Donna Shalala would be inmate #1.

What? You want civilized behaviour on the field?

What gives you the right to impose your values on others?

There might be root causes for this behaviour and we need to form a commission to study the issue!

I second your recommendations. With all that was going for those players, it's abominable that they would throw it all away like this. Both programs should be shut down completely for the rest of the year and their opponents still on the schedule awarded forfeits.

A couple of years ago, Clemson and South Carolina had a mid-field brawl.

The brawl was nowhere near as bad as the Miami-FIU game. But both coaches at the time voluntarily removed their teams from any post-season Bowl consideration. I believe some suspensions were also given out as well.

I'd like to see both teams remove themselves from post-season competition. That's likely not gonna be a problem for FIU - but it'll hurt Miami more.

Considering most of the players on both sides knew each other, and many belong to gangs, the fight was probably more of a gang thing than about which football team the other guy played for.

Ironically, the Miami-Dade Police Association sponsored a "Join a Team, Not A Gang" promotion which gave out tickets to the scUM-FIU game to a bunch of grade school kids.

It's about the only way to get anyone out to the Orange Bowl to watch their games nowadays.

It hasn't been too many years ago that the SMU football program was given the "death penalty" by the NCAA for recruiting violations. For a number of years, they were not allowed to field a football team. To the best of my knowledge, there wasn't a single instance of assault involved in that decision.

Kill the programs. They are clearly out of control.

I say not only suspend, but prosecute the way they did the NHL player who deliberately tried to injure the other player with his stick.

To all,

Arrgh!!!!

I care not if they either school gets the "Death Penalty," coaches are fired, or players suspendend until hell freezes over.

I was only curious as to the media burying Shalala's association with Criminal U.

LOL. Your post is, or should be, the poster for "You know you politicize everything when ..."

Now I understand the ban on the guy who used his helmet as a weapon, but equally heinous was #19 Brandon Merriweather (OK, I just looked it up) stomping on the back of the knee of at least one FIU player. He should be banned as well.

Brandon Merriweather - Miami's Marcus Vick

Did you actually ever go to school there? Did you actually watch the game?

Shalala has actually done a hell of a job down here. The school is booming.

Did anyone actually see this game?

Sad part about this is that ass beatings are part of UM culture and that the coach/director/president didn't have any real control over it. As long as I can remember, UM players have been trash talking. All the NFL players come back on campus and encourage "Walking the walk, talking the talk". Jumping on the other teams logo, punch the mascot, talk trash, throwing cheap shots - all fair game at UM. Exhibit a: Lamar Thomas.

And think of the attitudes of former players Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin. Par for the course.

No and no, just watched replays of the brawl ...it is a never ending story with the Miami prison team.

FIU provoked for most of the game with cheap personal fouls. It was going to happen.

You must still be living in the 80's. Larry Coker's Miami team has no balls at all. It would do them well to put some thug back in their game.

We will never agree...you defend them and I think every player involved should be prosecuted.
