IREY TO MURTHA: 'DEFEATOCRAT?' YOU SAID IT, NOT ME

Monday, October 16, 2006

(MONONGAHELA, October 16) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's op-ed piece, "Confessions of a 'Defeatocrat,' in yesterday's Washington Post -- today released this statement:

"Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of 10 million Iraqis going to the polls to cast their ballots to approve the Iraqi Constitution. And how did Jack Murtha respond? By penning an op-ed piece in the Washington Post in which he whined about how his political opponents are engaged in what he calls 'baseless name-calling' for pointing out that he and many of his fellow Democrats offer no solution to the ongoing conflict in Iraq other than withdrawal in defeat and disgrace. Mr. Murtha's response to those who dare disagree with him, as laid out in a fundraising solicitation he sent out on behalf of the ultraliberal group MoveOn.org last week? 'Screw them,' he wrote.

"Pot, meet kettle. Kettle, meet pot.

"Rather than engage in name-calling, baseless or otherwise, Jack Murtha would serve his constituents and his country better by offering something other than the one-word platform he now offers -- 'No.'

"In his op-ed piece, Mr. Murtha says Democrats 'are determined to restore our nation's military strength, refocus on the real terrorist threat, bolster security safeguards at home and reestablish the credible standing we once had in the world.'

"'Restore our nation's military strength?' From a man who declared that American Marines at Haditha had 'killed innocent civilians in cold blood' before the first Marine was charged, before the first court-martial was convened, before the first Marine was convicted, that's quite a statement. Or does Mr. Murtha not consider the morale of our armed forces when he speaks of 'restoring military strength?'

"'Refocus on the real terrorist threat?' From a man who voted against the Military Commission Act and against the reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act -- the two most important pieces of legislation passed by the Congress since 9/11 -- and who believes that the U.S. Government should not be listening in when suspected al Qaeda terrorists are talking to their contacts in the United States, that, too, is quite a statement.

"'Bolster security safeguards at home?' From a man who voted against enhanced border security twice in this Congress -- voting, in fact, to continue to allow hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and goodness knows how many terrorists to slip across our borders with impunity -- that, too, is quite a statement.

"'Reestablish the credible standing we once had in the world?' From a man who wants us to withdraw from Iraq before the mission is completed -- which would send a signal to the terrorists that if they kill enough Americans, they can drive us out, and which would send a message to other nations that the U.S. is an unreliable ally, and that it's better for their own safety and security to cut a deal with the terrorists than with us -- that, too, is quite a statement.

"Nothing Jack Murtha has said about withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq addresses one simple problem -- in the wake of a premature withdrawal, we would leave Iraq to the terrorists who would completely destabilize the nation and turn it into a new haven for international terrorists.

"Jack Murtha is wrong. And that's not 'name-calling,' that's just calling a spade a spade."

Bears repeating. Diana nails it. Please God, let us have Irey in Congress!

Seems as though she's putting up one helluva tough fight; does she really have a shot at winning?

If she got only one tenth the press time that the former Marine gets, Irey would wipe the floor with Haditha Jack Abscam.

However, the media is keeping the great unwashed from getting to know Diana Irey.

Hey Jim, there's a red bow on what looks like a gift box perched on the wall. Do tell! Spill the beans, man.

You got it.... I keep coming back to something I heard from Quinn of Quinn & Rose. He said something like this:

"... Folks... Please don't turn our troops over to this party..."
