NEW YORK -- Civil rights lawyer Lynne Stewart was sentenced to 28 months in prison in federal court in Manhattan Monday. She was convicted of providing support to terrorists by helping a jailed Egyptian sheik communicate with his followers on the outside.
Before sentencing, her lawyer told the judge that any prison sentence for Stewart would be a death sentence because of her serious health problems.
Stewart pleaded with the judge to allow her to live out the rest of her life "productively, lovingly, righteously.''
Assistant US Attorney Andrew Dember rejected defense suggestions that Stewart's conduct was judged differently after
9-11.
"This case had nothing to do with September 11,'' Dember told the judge. "What she was doing was smuggling terrorism messages and smuggling out Abdel-Rahman's responses.''
When Stewart arrived at the courthouse this morning, about 150 supporters chanted "Free Lynne, Free Lynne.''
Federal prosecutors say she had released a statement by Omar Abdel-Rahman, a blind sheik sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted in plots to blow up five New York landmarks and assassinate Egypt's president.
Is there some legal principle that says we cannot enforce the law against addleminded American leftists?
I'm more curious as to what the judge got in exchange for this.
That's my question. I'm just coming on the thread, too. Soros paid for the lawyer and the judge was Clinton-appointed.
O.K.
This is getting rediculous.
This woman (pig vomit) should be redeployed to Iraq with John Murtha (pig vomit 2) to "hang-out" with Saddam after his trial is over.
This is a much larger story than simple "corruption." This is what will happen with the Dhimmis in power. Terrorists and their supporters will get off easily.
I suggest we all start a letter campaign to the US DOJ

It sounds like something out of the Howard Dean 2004 playbook ~LOL~ I hope theeir overconfidence fires up the far right to get out and vote!! This is no time to stay home. I do hope that the left is so confident that many on their side will not bother to vote.
Soros bankrolled her defense, I wouldn't be shocked to find out he funneled money into a Swiss account for this judge.
I'll go out and vote, even if it snows like it did in Buffalo! LOL!
I don't know if you're familiar with Ron Kuby (William Kunsler's protegee) - he was totally in bleeding heart mode over this woman. I wanted to rip out the radio by its roots, but all I did was lift my eyes to heaven and *sigh*.
I fear that we are nearing that moment to nourish the tree of liberty. This criminal and the judge should be hanged for their crimes against the nation and the endangering of its citizens.
What do you waznt to bet she does her time, if she does it at all, at "Camp Cupcake" or a similar Club Fed?
So, the sentence for committing treason against the U.S. in a time of war is only 28 months? The families of those put to death in previous wars for similar crimes should complain, I guess.
from WABC Radio - and of course, Ron loves Lynn. Figures. Two fellow travellers who hate America.
She may even get "house arrest".
This evil, treasonous woman gets 28 months for her actions and Wesley Snipes could get 40 years for income tax evasion. Imagine that!
28 months? Did we need more proof that the War on Terror is a farce?
And it isn't pretty.
Since Ron has shown somewhat of a brain regarding the reality of terrorism, I thought he'd be at least somewhat critical. But no, he did a total Kumbaya. *GAG*
Are you a net listener to WABC? Don't answer that if you don't want to.
I should have expected this from the "terrorists are people with rights too" crowd, but I'm still disgusted by it. Thanks to judges like this, terrorists are safer here than in Iraq or Afghanistan.
