Alvin Toffler (Future Shock, The Third Wave predicted decades ago that large industrial entities, whether they were making cars or printing newspapers--would decentralize, regionalize or break up. In the case of the news media he called this: "De-Massifying the Media." I listened to Greta Van Sustrin last night on FOX talking about why she left CNN. She said when AOL took over CNN their management began to interfere with everything the news people were doing. The corporate management became oppressive and counterproductive. So she left for FOX.

Gannett papers treat their readers like they're in a 4th grade good citizenship class. They insult me every time I try to read one of their rags.

Are they? If I read the article correctly, they're only up some $50 million in debt over the past 3 quarters. Of course, the type of debt they dumped in the first two quarters might not have been as risky as the debt they replaced it with in the third quarter.

Debt loading and more Enronning of their books re circulation and ad prices are becoming the norm for these dinosaur fish wraps.

Now it seems the only way they can get their stock price is to create a Dead Cat bounce by rumors of mergers or big chunks of their holdings may be bought.
