I could hear it coming several seconds before it hit.
That's how it is here in CA when a sizeable EQ hits; the unique rumble like no other. Also took about the same amount of time for electricity to come back on ... basically, before the end of the day.
update: all the power is on now on Maui. I got it around a little after noon. Oahu is only about 15% on but will be total by tomorrow. Most actual damage is on the Big Island as it was closest to the epicenter. No one reported killed and I don't believe there are very many injuries either. Aloha
