What can be done at this late date? Most average people don't feel qualified or knowledgeable enough to hold public office - and with all the big campaign money of the professional politicians from big corporations - the average person can't produce the slick ads that, sadly, appeal to the average voter. Unlike days of old, campaigns have morphed into grueling endurance marathons that no normal person even wants to attempt to survive. The American public is in general over stimulated, fickle and wants to be entertained.

We have often thought that a person may go into politics with the best of motives, but then the lure of the big money is what tempts many of them to cross over to the dark side. . but, you're probably correct that it has further morphed for the most part into just an almost totally corrupt system hinging on who can get the most loot for political favors, both personally and for perpetual political campaigns.

There has to be a bottom line payoff for the Clintons. As you may be aware I am sure, there was to be a Clinton Dynasty (allegedly) - 8 yrs. of Bill, 8 yrs. of a puppet Gore administration, and then 8 yrs. of Hillary - and after that a firmly established surely socialist government in perpetuity for this country - with an endless supply of FBI files in their possession. I suppose the plan was that we would be bowing to their framed photographs on our living room walls at the end of 24 yrs. of that gang of two, or IS IT MORE THAN TWO? - I think Bill's big payoff ambition to start with was simply to never have to really work much, to have all the "bimbos" he wanted, to never have to pay a light bill or rent; but now his ambitions have enlarged to include the Nobel Peace Prize and speaking engagements and Hillary's has probably always included herself enthroned in the Oval Office some time after Bill's Presidency.

By purging DC of the professional politician and returning to the idea of the citizen-politician, we would break the power-and-corruption cycle. Post-9/11, we no longer have the luxury of time or circumstance to abide that nonsense.

We must field citizen-politicians of the highest caliber. As envisioned by the founders, the citizen-politicians would ''lend'' their expertise (What expertise, really, do the clintons have?) to government and then return to private life. The culture of access, influence and self-interest--and with it, the tyranny--would literally disappear overnight.

With their obvious excellence and assisted by the new technology, the citizen-politician would easily bypass the stacked system to capture the imagination -- and votes -- of the masses.
