is quite doubtful that HBOs Bill Maher knew what he was in for when he scheduled Danielle Pletka of the American Enterprise Institute to be on his "Real Time" panel Friday night. After all, with CNNs Lou Dobbs and liberal actor Ben Affleck surrounding her, it seemed highly unlikely the lone conservative in the discussion would survive the scrum, let alone win the debate. However, not only did Pletka hold her own, but she also ended up schooling Maher and Affleck on a virtual plethora of geopolitical issues making this one of the more enjoyable Friday Night Fights in recent memory (video link to follow).

It's 1936 all over again, The politicians who see the reality of the situtation are calling for confrontation. Meanwhile, the opposition party is winning hearts and minds (and votes) by offering peace instead of war to an ignorant electorate. The public wants peace and votes accordingly.....
....and then Hitler ionvades Poland (Woops) or (today) Al Qaeda types nuke Israel or Chicago or London. It's been done before. Democracies are easy to manipulate when it comes to these matters. I just wonder who gets to be Winston Churchill (assuming Western Civilization survives). John Kerry is my choice for Neville Chamberlin. He'll be in Tehran blowing their President in Spring of 2008 for sure.
Pletka! Pletka! Pletka! Woot!
For anyone who missed the link to the transcript at the top of the thread:

They were evil before the speech. Now they're evil and have tested long range missiles and supposedly nuclear weapons. That seems to me to be more evil than before.
OK, they're Axis of Evil founding members and are doing what the President said we would not sit still for them doing. And that is better how?
Priceless.
It's not better...it's frightening! But to lay the blame solely at the feet of Pres. Bush is moronic and myopic...which is why he wants (and was urging) the rest of the world to step up but they keep stepping back which is even more frightening.
Just what would you have had Pres. Bush do?
Earth to non-sequitor: North Korea descended into the abyss of evil in 1950 and Iran followed in 1979 during the Democratic administrations of Truman and Carter, respectively.
They've remained there ever since, becoming purer strains of evil with the the occasional Democratic US president's eager assistance ever since.
Your fatuous comment is like saying that Michael Moore became slobby and morbidly obese only when someone had the gall to tell him to his slobby and grossly obese face that he has a weight and hygiene problem.
Moron.
Nope. You still don't get it. Evil is an approach to living and dealing with things. Missiles and a nuke are tools that can be used to perform good or evi acts. It doesn't change their nature that they have demonstrated that they have these things. It does change their known capabilities.
Further, they obviously have been working on both for a very long time and Bush's speech didn't affect that in any way shape or form, nor did it advance the timetable for them having this capability. At most it advanced their revealing the capability to the world.
If you have a gun in your pocket and I don't know it, you are still just as dangerous to me as if you have shown it to me. I will be ignorant of the danger, but the danger is there none the less. And the fact that you have a gun doesn't make you good or evil, it's just a tool. The good or evil is in the way the tool is used.
I don't have to watch the video to tell you without a doubt Ben Affleck is a moron. Him and all the other Hollyweird Cocoa for Koo Koo Puffs should stick to making crappy movies.
To say that they wouldn't have tested missles or nucs if Bush hadn't said "Axis of Evil" is the height of stupidity.
Why do people have to continue to make exuses for evil, murderous regiemes?
Hey anytime someone can verbally slap Maher around the way he takes great pleasure in doing to others I give a thumbs up.That being said I don't need Danielle Pletka or George Bush to inform me North Korea and Iran are evil regimes, I came to that conclusion all by myself !!!
Classic!
As to Lou Dobbs' suggestion that we pull out of Iraq, her reply could have been, "You people have sat here all night worried at how WORDS are bringing us more terrorism, when there is nothing we could do that would foster more terrorism than that what Lou Dobbs just suggested."
I'm stunned that Maher actually defended Saddam Hussein while knocking the U.S. I souldn't be, but that sort of thing always shocks me. Maher pushed the phony stat of 655,000 people killed by the US and her allies in the Iraq war while arguing against the one million killed under Saddam figure.
BUMP!
