Foreign Ministry sources said Saturday that North Korea was transferring equipment and technology to Iran that can be used to produce missiles, Israel Radio reported.
Israel welcomed the UN Security Council's decision Saturday to impose sanctions on North Korea.
Senior officials in Jerusalem said that Israel saw the decision as a "step in the right direction" in the effort to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.
Does the UN Security Resolution have any language on preventing North Korea from exporting the things North Korea is banned from importing, such as missle technology?
North Korea-Iran Missile Connection Very Strong
The Korea Times
September 7, 2006
Arms connections between North Korea and Iran are very strong, with the former regime being the main supplier of ballistic missile technologies to Tehran, a senior U.S. non-proliferation official said Wednesday.
Undersecretary of State Robert Joseph, in charge of arms control and international security, was cautious about going into intelligence, the Yonhap News Agency in Seoul reported.
``But I can say that the connections between North Korea and Iran are very strong, he was quoted as saying at a news conference with the foreign press.
``And North Korea has been, I think, the principal supplier to Iran of ballistic missile technologies, he said.
Pyongyang became the subject of international condemnation after it test-fired seven missiles in early July, including its long-range Taepodong that theoretically can strike the U.S. west coast.
The U.N. Security Council reacted with a unanimous resolution criticizing North Korea's actions and requiring U.N. members to block the flow of funds and technology that may facilitate the country's missile and weapons of mass destruction programs.
