The bayou country is humid and swampy. Drive I-10 after dark between Baton Rouge and NO and scraping the bugs off your windhield the next day is like chipping an ice sheet off of it in winter. Tons of wildlife thrive down there, and the remaining garbage and debris piles attract the stuff you definitely don't want.
That's why it would be a perfect habitat for Florida's surplus pythons.
