THE United States has told Japan it has detected radioactive elements in the atmosphere over the vicinity of the Sea of Japan following North Korea's announced nuclear test, reports said today.
Jiji Press reported the result of the US investigation was preliminary, while Kyodo News said Tokyo had yet to conclude the nuclear test was actually carried out as claimed, with both reports citing unnamed government sources.

Pres. Bush should politely request Li'l Kim please for to repeat the experiment. This time with a surface detonation so we can be certain once and for all.
I think this was a dirty bomb.

IF they did get a sample, it will allow us to 'fingerprint' any future uses and trace the materials back to NK. A big deal in some ways.
Underground tests don't release radioactive materials into the atmosphere. That's why they are done underground.
We all should be glowing from all the tests we have done.
Aww come on.
All N Korea did was look up "how things work" on the internet to figure out how to build a nuke. Mini nukes? make it smaller, use less plutonium.

CHINA AND JAPAN FOUND NO COMPELLING EVIDENCE IN THEIR AIR SAMPLES.
ANY THEORIES, FREEPERS, AS TO WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON HERE?
I don't necessarily believe this.
NKers could just lift the lid on one of their
reactors, for a day or two.

No one seems willing to identify the nuclides.
Possibly China and Japan were looking for particulate materials such as strontium 90, barium 143, etc.
Later tests by some may have found krypton 90 or other gaseous nuclides such as xenon isotopes. These are not found in Nature, so would be indicative of a fisson reaction..NOT neccesarily from a critical mass, though. A poor yeild could still produce some.
Still, we do not know WHAT they found, if anything.
Very interesting. Thanks for the post and link.
Have a look at this one.
