Unfortunately, what our "custom" is - i.e., that which brought Western Civ to prominence in the last 5 centuries - has been attacked, watered down,and deconstructed to impute evil to it for quite sometime. It has almost come to pass for common knowledge in many quarters that Judeo-Christian (and by reference, Greco-Roman) reason, enlightment & progress passes for naught.
It is interesting that our president happened to be available when this country needed a backbone and uncommon resolve. That he alone, it seems, has held firm in spite of all of the slings and arrows thrown at him, speaks volumns. I do believe history will be exceptionally kind to George W. Bush.
Let us hope we survive to enjoy a continuing history.
