Seersucker's out. Pinstripes are in. And no one in the press corps is safe from the president's light asides on fashion choices.
WASHINGTON Even as he talked about North Korea's nuclear ambitions and other weighty matters, President Bush on Wednesday returned to his occasional role as fashion critic to the White House press corps.
"If I might say, that is a beautiful suit . And I can't see anybody else that even comes close," the president told NBC's Kevin Corke, who was wearing pinstripes, in the course of a Rose Garden news conference that focused on North Korea-related diplomacy and the Iraq war.
Corke responded that he would convey the president's comments to his tailor. "I'll be happy to pass along my tailor's number if you'd like that, sir," he also offered.
.............
By the time Bush called on Jim Axelrod of CBS, the reporter felt compelled to start with a defensive comment: "My best suit's in the cleaners," Axelrod explained to the president.
"That's not even a suit," Bush retorted, eyeing Axelrod's sport coat and slacks.

Herman said he considered the banter just part of Bush's social mannerisms. "I've been covering him since 1993 in Texas," Herman said. "That's the way he likes to make connections. He still has some frat boy in him. He likes to tease people."
I can't understand anyone who doesn't show sufficient respect for the place and occasion.

If Bush began a press conference saying "Good morning, nice day, isn't it?" the MSM would attack him for making light of the threat of Global Warming.
You know who was like that behind the scenes
President Reagan
He especially like the color red but I think MSN media is not to used to US president who want dress respectively I have a friend who went to WH in flipflops this was during CLINTON administarion
Everyone became too casual in and around the WH during the Clinton administration.
No. The Clinton Era was one of a lot of screwing around. No one should respect that.
Regards, Ivan
Agree. Certain states are more casual than others. I noticed that the South is generally more prone to dress for dinner.
BTW, when I was in London I went to Prince Alberts Hall on Good Friday to hear the Messiah. What a magnificent Hall & the music was beautiful. However (!!), I could not believe it when they brought around popcorn at intermission. Quel horreur!
Remember when all those girls wore FLIP-FLOPS to meet the President??? Geesh...no one is taught any decorum when they are growing up. People don't know how to dress, they don't write thank you notes, they show up LATE for everything....sad and disgusting.
Our dear President Reagan held the office in such regard that he didn't remove his jacket while in the Oval Office.
Clinton is not fit to remove the bubblegum from beneath President Reagan's movie theatre seat with a rusty butterknife.
Regards, Ivan
Probably wasn't even noticed. No doubt Clinton's staff were similarly attired...
I recall he looked at some reporter and said, "seersucker's coming back in style..."
I'm surprised they were wearing clothes.
Regards, Ivan
You do have a way with a phrase.
And coming from me, that's definitely a compliment.
Yeah he went as tourist
I ask him why did you do that dude
He said everybody was wearing flip flops at the WH
I was stunned then but now as I much learn about ex US President I am not suprised
Good one ;^D
Regards, Ivan
It's the American press Ivan. These are the same people who would shove a microphone in the face of a mother burying her child and ask her how she feels.
I'd call them scum, but that would be an insult to scum.
L
The President is talking "clothes"? We need to get him back to Texas and in jeans ASAP! :')
