Doolittle, Brown in nasty debate

Democratic challenger labels his foe corrupt, and in a return shot is called 'flim-flam man.'

Rep. John Doolittle and Democratic challenger Charlie Brown went after each other in a bruising campaign debate Wednesday night, with Brown depicting Doolittle as a corrupt politician in the pocket of felons and Doolittle calling his rival a "flim-flam man" hiding his extreme liberal views.

There were verbal haymakers almost from the outset of the televised debate that took place in the Rocklin studios of Starstream Communications and was aired live by the Placer County cable network.

"You try to be a conservative to the Republicans and a liberal to your screaming hooligans outside," Doolittle told Brown, referring to sign-wielding Brown supporters outside the studios. "I'm a conservative. Tell us who you are. Don't be a flim-flam man who is conservative in the daytime and hobnobs with Willie Brown and the liberals in San Francisco at night."

While Doolittle attacked his challenger for appearing at an anti-Iraq war rally with actor Sean Penn and peace activist Cindy Sheehan, Brown jumped on Doolittle for doing the bidding of disgraced Washington, D.C., lobbyist Jack Abramoff on behalf of sub-minimum wage jobs in the Northern Mariana Islands and Indian casinos in Iowa and Massachusetts.

He also assailed Doolittle for working to win $37 million in defense contracts for Brent Wilkes, a San Diego businessman implicated in the bribery scandal that sent Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham to federal prison. He also attacked him for refusing to return a $1,000 contribution from former GOP Rep. Mark Foley, who resigned after sending lurid e-mails to teenage congressional pages.

"Take responsibility for the money you took from Jack Abramoff. Take responsibility for the money you took from Brent Wilkes. Take responsibility for the money you took from Mark Foley ... for taking money from convicted felons,"...

For those that don't live here, Charlie Brown sounds traditional conservative themes in his campaign ads in this historically conservative district. But in letters to the editor for years, he has always been to the far left. His far left credentials continue as per the article above. Doolittle does little, but at least he votes correctly on the issues that matter. I believe his seat is a safe one.

Brown's campaign ads always show him in military uniform. I got a recorded voice mail from "Republicans for Brown" claiming he's for closing the borders (notice how a lot of democrats are saying this all of a sudden?). I'm also seeing lots of lawn signs "Republicans for Brown".
What a phony!

It's amazing.

Even here in Minnesota, there are Democrats who seem to be going out of their way to tell you how liberal they AREN'T!

Mike Hatch, the Dem nominee for Governor claims that he won't raise taxes (he will, trust me!) and has a commercial of him walking thru a field with a shotgun as if he's hunting.

There are a number of other instances as well.

For a party that seems so proud of their diversity, open-mindedness and tolerance, they don't seem so willing to wanna display what they believe in.

Placer County has 53.9% Republican registration -- highest in the state. The notion that a literal card-carrying ACLU member is going to be elected in CA-4 is just nuts. Plus, Brown's radio ads sound like they were recorded in somebody's garage.

Early each morning, I bow towards the Holy City of Auburn from my deck in Rocklin while enjoying infidel ground Republican coffee. : )

Great tagline.
